If i walked into apple store and bought iphone 6 tmobile ,should i open the box there and activate it to another carrier there?

How long take to order status change from processing item to next step? (Generally)

Just to add more proof for anyone still worried about it being unlocked here is the official order from Apple
It shows that the T-Mobile version actually has no ties to their network because it is just the GSM model.

finally, 4 apple support agreed on unlocked

hi,

i've just had a chat with 4 different apple online support guys, they all said that it's unlocked right out of the box, and they were sending notifications yesterday and it will work with all compatible GSM carriers, so i've ordered mine and the silicone case.

so so

Look that:

‏@TMobileHelp @PablooCastilloo @capimarval Any device we sell will be locked to our network, however you may be able to reach out to Apple. *RD

https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp/status/510174691655712768

"If you purchase the "Contract Free" T-Mobile version from the Apple website it will also be locked to our network and the same requirements must be met before we can unlock it. The difference is, if you purchase the device from our site you can opt to pay for the phone in monthly installments if you have a qualifying account with us rather than paying the full retail price up front on the Apple site. *CL "

The iPhone sold ON THE APPLE website for T-Mobile is UNLOCKED. Period the end.

I don't care what any rep at Apple or tmobile at cricket Verizon sprint straight talk anywhere tells you. THEY ARE WRONG.
THE T-mobile contract free full retail price iPhones sold at Apples website are UNLOCKED FOR ANY GSM CARRIER.

Hope it will be unlocked

I have talk so many times to :apple: apple rep they told it is locked to tmobile. Then I told them, there are so many threads sayings its unlocked and some screen shot that :apple: apple rep told its unlocked. For that he told.We are also confused abt the threads, but still now we didn't get any information abt that. He told to put the AT&T sim and see if it works then its unlocked internationally. So i have ordered one. If it is unlocked then we can use it. Otherwise just return it.

WAITING FOR SEP 19th.......:):):)

Yes, I've ended my chat with them 3 hours ago, the only thing new today is they confirm that they got the unlocked info notification only yesterday, so it does make sense to be confused earlier.

Hope you guys are right. I canceled my AT&T phone for $549 (64 GB) and ordered a T-Mobile one instead.

Only getting a partial subsidy and loosing my $25 a month shared plan discount was not cool. Save only $200 on the phone and get charged $600 in fee's over the life of the 2 year contract!!!!

So here's hoping it works, and that by some miracle it ships earlier than Oct 2nd.;)

That's the same thing it shows for at&t.

This is strange... I just spoke to 1-800-MYAPPLE and the lady categorically told me that the phone will not work overseas out of the box. I will have to call T-Mobile and they will tell me if and how I can get it unlocked.

So many different answers! Only option we all have is to wait till 19th for someone to get their iPhone 6 and tell us the good/bad news! *fingers crossed*

Just to wrap everything up so everyone doesn't have to read the whole thread through:

The T-Mobile version sold through Apple Retail or Online Store is Unlocked. Period.

It differs from the version (they call sim-free/unlocked) as the T-Mobile version comes with a T-Mobile sim already inserted in the phone and it does NOT include the small metal ejector tool. But apart from the included sim and non-included ejector tool, the T-Mobile version from Apple Retail and Online Store is unlocked!

The T-Mobile version through T-Mobile is NOT unlocked, but can be unlocked later if you use the phone for 40 days and charge the account with a minimum of 100 USD.

Hope that clears any misunderstandings.

Cheers

I must say I am little relieved to hear this... I hope we get a final confirmation of this on the 19th.

I am not sure of the reliability of this site... or even where they are getting their quotes from but... http://www.ibtimes.com/how-pre-order-iphone-6-when-where-purchase-apples-smartphone-1686108

“The T-Mobile iPhone is contract-free and can be used with the GSM carrier of your choice internationally,..." an Apple retail support representative wrote.

and

"The iPhone 6 will come unlocked as long as customers pay full price," a T-Mobile representative said. "If customers choose to take advantage of T-Mobile’s Equipment Installment Plan it will be locked until the device is fully paid off. This policy applies at both T-Mobile and Apple stores."
