Terrible delivery times

I ordered an iPod mini 6gb a week ago monday and I've been tracking its progress ever since, comparing it to what's happened to other people. Google brought up this site several times in my hunt for experiences so I thought I may as well put mine up too.

I ordered it on the afternoon of Monday 7th. The apple site said that the item would be ready for dispatch in 24 hours but if I were to go for the custom engraving (which was free), it would take 5-6 days longer to get here. Fine I thought, that still leaves plenty of time to get it before I go skiing on the 19th. I ordered it and waited patiently. On the 9th I got an email informing me that the item had shipped. It was expected to take 7-8 working days to get to me.

Rriight. So that's already going to be quite a bit longer than they said *before* I ordered. By those workings I should get the item on Friday 18th or the following Monday.

I guessed that they would deliver on the Friday or before because companies usually seem to give over-estimated delivery times.

I tracked my item all the way from Shanghai by using the www.apecode.com website that I'd found by reading other people's experiences on here:

15 mar 05 90 75 truck arrived at final destination Apple, Shanghai 15 mar 05
14 mar 05 30 10 departed direct KN Luxemburg
14 mar 05 40 69 accept scanned at EDC KN Luxemburg 16 mar 05
14 mar 05 86 14 booking slot obtained KN Luxemburg
14 mar 05 40 60 Arrived at EDC KN Luxemburg 15 mar 05
13 mar 05 32 55 flight departed Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
11 mar 05 32 05 Flight Booked Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
10 mar 05 30 64 Departed from source Apple, Shanghai
09 mar 05 30 60 departed from product source Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
09 mar 05 05 00 boxes scanned Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
09 mar 05 00 05 Data received from supplier Apple, Shanghai

So on the 15th I started frantically checking to see what TNT Express were doing with it. Item 'not found' over and over again. I called up Apple to harass them a bit and to make sure they knew that I really needed to get it before the weekend as I wouldn't be here otherwise. They said it should go through pretty soon as once an item arrives in the Netherlands, it usually gets sent straight to the UK. So today, the 17th. Still nothing. TNT Express have been sitting on their arses doing absolutely nothing. My little iPod has been on a shelf doing nothing. Nobody's even bothered to scan it into their systems.

Upon calling Apple again, they now say that TNT's expected delivery date is now Monday or Tuesday next week and that I definately won't get it before then. There's no explaination as to why its been sitting around for days.

So basically TNT Express are very much NOT Express.

Not happy.

Well it seems like my luck isn't all bad, my iPod's appeared on TNT Express' tracking and I've spoken to a nice lady called Anna there and she tells me that it looks like I'll be getting my baby tomorrow after all.

It turns out it wasn't TNT Express's fault, it was Apple who decided not to forward on the item to TNT Express for days on end.

My 60gig iPod is probably in the same consignment then, as I ordered it on the same day, however it's still not registering on the TNT search, so I guess I'm not getting mine anytime soon.

I have ordered from apple online twice now and the delivery times had been really bad both times. Also, the tracker wasn't up to date either and my ibook arrived when the tracker site said it was still abroad!!

Delivery sucks with apple.

I ordered an iPod remote control from Apple last week and it arrived within a couple of days. But that was just a remote and they probably have a few thousand boxes of them lying around!

This is truly strange as I had the exact opposite occur. I ordered my iPod 60GB photo at 1AM EST on a Saturday. By 3PM EST on Sunday it had shipped from Shanghai and it arrived at my door Tuesday AM at appx 8AM EST. In total less than 80 hours and that was with custom engraving. I was awestruck at how fast it got here.

Might be due to the fact you're in the USA and we're in the UK...

Still no sign, am sending up flares and arranging a search party....

As was mentioned in an earlier thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=102300 TNT in the UK have a problem with theft it seems. On the bright side if yours is more than a few days late you could be looking at decent compensation.

It arrived!!! :-D :-D

It arrived early this morning at some point between 8:15 and 9:45 (I was out and my housemate signed for it).

Yay!!! I'm so happy!!! Shame I have to buy a firewire cable now but that doesn't really bother me!!

I'm finding it surprisingly hard to fill the little critter up, I've got thousands and thousands of songs but I can't be bothered to listen to most of them and so don't want them on there!! Only have about 1.5 gigs worth of stuff I want to listen to in the near future.

For those still awaiting delivery, here are my final shipping info files from www.apecode.com:

Finally arrived today, about 3 days after apple said it would, it did show up on the TNT tracking, then sat in Northampton for 3 days...

Still, everything arrived at the same time, the case is cool and the iPod is spot-on, makes my old 2nd Gen 10gig look very outdated.

Currently re-ripping a zillion CD's into 320Kbps AAC and a few into Lossless...

Got all my pics on it too.

05 Apr 2005 16:21 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
05 Apr 2005 13:19 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

Above is what the status says on the TNT express website. Was hoping to have the device some time this week but it doesn't look like thats going to happen......

I had never come across TNT here in the UK (Northern Ireland) until recently once I'd ordered my Powerbook along with some other stuff. On every occasion the delivery took longer than TNT themselves said it would take. For example, I ordered an Airport Express on Monday and it was despatched Tuesday on TNT's 'INTL OVERNITE - Next Working Day' service, and guess what? Even though the tracking information says it is 'Out for Delivery', I checked with the depot and they haven't recieved it into Belfast yet, meaning it *might* be delivered tomorrow, so I've been sitting here doing nothing unnecessarily... gah!

I'd love UPS here. Best company I've had experience with is Parcel Force. At least they arrive fairly promptly (not 9am mind!) on the day they say.

Ipod delivery probs

Found this thread from google and thought i would share my experience with apple so far.

Ordered an Ipod mini on 2nd April, with engraving.

Apple said it would ship on or before 07.04.2005.

Checked my TNT consignment number (the second of the two numbers on the apple confirmation email) on their website: http://www.tnt.com:

Date Time Location Status
06 Apr 2005 20:01 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
06 Apr 2005 08:00 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
05 Apr 2005 19:14 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
05 Apr 2005 16:22 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
05 Apr 2005 14:52 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

Seems like I have had a fairly quick despatch, considering it is engraved. I won't hold my breath though, given people's experiences on this site!

Will post when it arrives so you can compare your experience.

One question, if my Ipod is delivered late, outside the 7 day maximum delivery time after order despatch, how much ball park compensation should I expect based on your experiences?

Cheers,

Rob

Just wanted to share my experiences.
Ordered an ibook and ipod seperatly. the ipod arrived the day after it shipped!
Got an email yesterday saying my ibook had shipped with a delivery time of 7-8 days!
Kinda needed it before then for work. anyone else have experience with ibook deliveries? will it take the full 7-8 days?

depends on where you are and if its a BTO or stock 'book really. stock stuff obviously gets sent out faster and will take less time. BTO can take a bit longer as the build it and have to send it from Singapore i believe

Terrible Delivery Times

You think you have had problems!
My iPod mini was shipped from Apple, Shanghai on the 4th May with TNT. Here are the details.

10 May 2005 09:00 Amsterdam Consignment Held For Inspection By Customs
05 May 2005 09:43 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
04 May 2005 15:44 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
04 May 2005 15:34 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
04 May 2005 13:40 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
04 May 2005 11:37 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

Then Apple email me syaing I have to wait another 10 days. So I ring them up and find out what is going on. Guess what? My iPod has been reshipped from Shanghai with Kuhne and Nagel! Here are the details so far.

14 may 05 32 05 Flight Booked Apple, Shanghai
12 may 05 30 60 departed from product source Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
12 may 05 05 00 boxes scanned Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
12 may 05 30 61 Consignment Booking received from supplier Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
12 may 05 00 05 Data received from supplier Apple, Shanghai

So I ordered it on 30/05 it is now 15/05 I have waited 16 days for something that was supposed to be delivered in 7-8 days.

Way to go Apple!!

TNT a farce delivery company!!!

APPLE! If you don't want to lose internet customers, then kick TNT in the butt and change to UPS or FEDEX or even then normal postal service 'cos TNT is giving you a bad name!!!

Bought a MacBook Pro online, took a leave and waited at home the whole day for TNT and they put on their website that delivery was tried at 12.25 and I wasn't at home! Any closer to the front door and I would have been outside the house!!!! If they came where is the card that they normally leave?

To add insult to injury, they claimed they tried re-delivery at 8.27pm. At 8.15pm to 8.45pm, I was standing outside my house talking to a neighbour!!!!! Me and my neighbour must both be blind and deaf to have missed the TNT delivery!!!!!!!!!!! Look at what their record looks like from Shanghai to London:

Date Time Location Status
28 Feb 2006 08:14 London City Out For Delivery
27 Feb 2006 20:27 London City Not Home On Delivery Attempt To Residential Address
27 Feb 2006 12:25 London City Not Home On Delivery Attempt To Residential Address
27 Feb 2006 08:29 London City Out For Delivery
26 Feb 2006 10:29 London City Import Received
24 Feb 2006 19:49 Northampton Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
23 Feb 2006 19:57 Arnhem Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
23 Feb 2006 11:02 Amsterdam Consignment Received At Transit Point
21 Feb 2006 23:29 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
21 Feb 2006 15:11 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

A snail could have brought it faster!

This is not the first time as they did the same thing last year with another Apple delivery to my house.

Called UPS yesterday morning to collect a parcel and they came within 2 hours. That is what u call a service. TNT is ********!

Funny, it took 3 days from Shanghai to Northampton in your case, over 5 for mine. Not looking good for having my MacBook in hand this week as I'd hoped..
