iTunes Ping Fail due to FB?!

Like the title say I just notice that ping was not a big success due to the fact FB wouldn't let accounts sync together right?

So instead FB just went with Spotify to have a better world together! Thoughts? AmIright? Would Ping be success if FB would allow it to sync in the first place like when Steve Jobs did the presentation about it while back.

To be honest, I am not a fan of either implementation and don't plan on using them now or ever
Just doesn't hit my demographic

Remains to be seen if the FB implementation is adopted or not

But I think it would help if FB was in the game and allow it in the first place!?

The concept is stupid to begin with, that is why it didn't take off.

I am not a fan of this whole social graph everyone up in my business idea.

I just don't think people are interested enough in music enough to put the effort into having yet another social network just for sharing stuff about music you bought on iTunes with your friends. What you'd get from the artists is probably the same as their FB, their personal blog and twitter. Why bother, iTunes isn't a web browser either.

I don't think facebook integration would have helped, "oh let me just go onto that other place to get the same info and get adds on music instead". It sounds like Apple expected FB to play along with them and just expected that FB would have let them loose a slice of market.

I'm not a fan of ping or fb. It's weird. I remember 20 years ago people were concerned about their info being posted on the Internet and now people are rushing to get every tidbit up there.

Not my cup of tea.

Bingo that is exactly it. Ping was a crappy piss poor idea at the beginning. It was nice when Apple finally gave people the option to turn it off so they do not even have to see it on iTunes after people complained about it.

Ping failed on the day of it's release.

Ping failed not because of FB but because apple's implementation is poor. Lack of grasp of developing a social service is the root of the failure

I agree

I read that FB was holding out on an ipod app to get Apple to integrate FB in to the next OS. Any news on this?
I really want nothing to do with FB.

I think Ping would have been more successful out of the gate with Facebook integration but their partnership with Twitter will eventually prove to be a better long term strategy.

With Facebook, Apple would have been stepping into Facebook's music business which would have had them competing with their partner. Twitter is a more lean social network where Apple's Ping service can enhance and complement Twitter and vice versa.

Given that Apple hasn't dropped Ping yet and has been very quiet about it, I think that they're preparing for a relaunch or a major rethinking of the concept. Having bands and music communities built directly into iTunes is an excellent idea whose time will come if implemented correctly.

I believe that Apple should work directly with Twitter by building it into iTunes. Instead of a Ping account, you'll be able to sign in with your Twitter login and follow your favourite artists who are already very active on Twitter.

Twitter in turn will cede more in depth artist profile pages to Apple. Artists will be able to update upcoming concerts and music releases that iTunes users can subscribe to, to be notified. Users will also be able to share their music purchases, listening habits with people who choose to follow them in order to discover new music.

Ping is a great enhancement to iTunes but it's been implemented in a way that necessitates users and artists to manage and update yet another social network. This is why it has not become popular: it's trying to compete with ingrained existing social networks. By allowing Twitter to be built into iTunes and then offering services better offered directly in iTunes, Ping can become very useful and convenient.

These are interesting ideas but I think the big problem is iTunes is a terrible browsing experience and most people don't use it like a a browser.

On the other hand , if I look up an artist at Amazon I can get to all the social media links (that I don't use) and I can see there tour schedule (which I do care about) and go to there web site etc.

Apples insistence on keeping you in iTunes will be their undoing.

Did I mention iTunes is a terrible browsing experience?
