Eep, I'd take a low-end iMac over an eMac without question. Buy the time you upgrade the eMacs RAM and such, it's not THAT much less money, but it's a whole lot less computer

Well for 300 bucks more....let's see.

G5
128MB VRAM
512 RAM
160 GB HDD

Etc. etc. etc.

A no brainer.

Nice to see Apple hasn't forgot about the eMac - a solid update IMO.

Now all we need is iBooks updates!

eMac: 999$CAD
iMac: 1599$CAD

I wouldn't call that a no-brainer...

wow, updates galore, but 256mb low end ram seems a bit too low for this day and age

Indeed, a Radeon 9600/64MB would kick ass for the new Mac mini too!

In fact, the Radeon 9600/64MB might just be Apple's new "low-end" GPU/VRAM configuration!

Probably not for what people tend to do on an eMac though - I don't know any eMac users who do anything more than use Mail, Safari and possibly Office. The extra RAM would probably make things a bit snappier in iPhoto, iTunes, etc., but I doubt anyone is going to be installing FCP on their eMac.

Especially with Tiger (some people reported 512MB with 10.4 is similar to 256MB with 10.3)

Anyone else feel like the eMac would get a lot more attention if it weren't so... ugly? Next to everything else in Apple's line-up it looks like an afterthought for children 8 years or younger.

An improvement.

This is more of the type of eMac I would have wanted, starting with an 80GB HD and a 64 MB video card. But considering that the last model lasted a year, I feel pretty good about my eMac purchase last August...and it is still the speediest feeling computer in the house! I love how fast that machine starts up. Still not a hard-core gaming machine by any means, but better.

Too expensive

the low end should be $499 and the high end $699 ... have they looked at what that kind of money will get you in the PC biz these days ?

I agree - add in the cost of the HDD, wireless and ram and its even closer...

And G5 of course.

eMac update could have happened 6 months ago and it would have been nice...now though it looks pretty untempting.

Good to see the eMac make it another round Wonder why they don't put this stuff on the front page of apple.com? Anyone that would buy tiger knows about it already.

When did the iBook page get updated to include Tiger? Does this mean no iBook updates for a while?

I'm honestly surprised they haven't killed the thing yet, but I guess the EDU market is still asking for them.

yeah, Winblows and a separate monitor and usually integrated graphics, anyone who knows how to put together a system like that probably wont be only spending $1000 on it.

Didn't you already post this exact post in another thread? You wouldn't be violating MacRumors' policy on duplicate posts in multiple threads, would you?

Anyway, I'm sure the iBook updates can't be too far away either. The PowerBook updates are going to be tricky, because the next update essentially has to be a major one, whether it's G5 or dual-core G4 - this really affects when Apple can release it - however with the iBooks, since nothing revolutionary will be done with them, updates should be easy to do and will be announced in the very near future I'm guessing.

Hopefully they will at least bring the iBook up to 512Mb standard.
