The 15 Inch Macbook Air

Any News/Rumours on it ? ..... The Retina is too expensive and the older 15 pro is simply too bulky and heavy. The Air 15 is what a lot of people are looking forward to.

I'd go for a 15-inch MBA if it had 1920 x 1080 resolution!

I agree, it could of been as big a seller as the 4.5 lb retina MacBook Pro, imo.

I think that's what a lot of people were expecting. I'm very happy with Apple's displays, except the 13" MBP.

I think they over did it with the retina thing. I'd sooner of seen a hi res non retina 15" Air with insane battery life. They could have that.

And so could Samsung. I'll be the first to admit that there isn't an Ultrabook out there that can compare to the MBA, but the MBA and Ultrabooks are old news. They needed to raise the bar dramatically, and that's what they've done.

What would the 15" MBA have that the 15" retina MBP doesn't have?

We have a thinner laptop w/o a optical drive in the retina MBP as it is. They can't really make it that much slimmer and putting a ulv processor in the 15" makes little sense.

Thats what Im wondering with both the 13 Pro AND 15 Air.

$1199 - 13" Air 128
$1499 - 13" Air 128
$ ??? - 13" Pro ???
$ ??? - 15" Air ???
$2199 - 15" Pro

So that creates two questions.
1) What "missing feature" would a 13" Pro have that a 13" Air doesnt? And what downgraded feature would a 15" Air be missing that the 15" Pro has? It seems the biggest differentiator is the Retina screen, but if Apple's goal is to put Retina across the line then why would they fragment the hardware by restricting screen progress?

2) What price would a 13" Pro or 15" Air be? Apple works around pricepoints so that makes BOTH a 13" Pro and 15" Air to be $1799 which just doesnt make sense. More likely we'd simply see a lower entry point to the MBP 15" Retina ($1799) next gen when they phase out the 13/15" optical versions.


IMO, the 15" MBP essentially is the 15" Air. It has all the common Air characteristics (thin and light yet still as powerful as competing bigger machines) so the only thing missing is the teardrop shape. But I dont feel the whole "Air" thing isn't defined by a teardrop shape so maybe this is it.
