I was just watching "The West Wing", and during the first commercial break (right after the opening), I saw a switch ad featuring Yo-Yo Ma. Is this ad new? It's not listed on Apple's Switch page. Glad to see Apple's increasing the number of celebrity switch ads. Maybe it'll help convince more music and hollywood wanna-be's to switch.

Must be new. It's not on the switch site, unless whichever broadcasting company aired it put it on earlier than they were supposed to... They might end up right next to Time Canada  ;)

Saw that too. I liked it muchly, and ran over to the Switch site as well - thought maybe (somehow) I had missed the announcement here.

BTW, is Mary-Louise Parker not the absolute cutest?

back in NYC!
I'm assuming this was in English... I think it is
really cool that apple is getting celebrities like
Yo-Yo Ma instead of Christinga Aguilera and N'Sync.
I think the celebrities they are using have more
style and creativeness. (I'm not saying Christ. A
and N'sync aren't creative, but I think they are
not as.... what is the word I'm looking for.....
for right now I will say that they aren't as cool,
but I'm sure 20 million 12 year old girls would
disagree.)

Sweet.. a thread that is relevant to something that has been on my mind for a while now.. Whenever apple's last expo was (can't quite recall)i was streaming it from the net with the new MPEG4 QT6 ... it ended with steve walking off stage and then a cut to a switch ad featuring none other than the funniest man alive... will farrell.. i have looked high and low for any mention of this on the net and its like i was the only one that saw it.. it was HILARIOUS.. he goes off on this tangent about how with macs you can do a lot.. and with parfait (which he is eating) you can't do anything but poop it out.. and then he ends with.. I'm Will Farrell.. Porn Actor.. so genius.. now tell me apple why don't you release that on TV.. people LOVEEEE will..

please tell me some of you saw that...

International switch ads!

So after going and seeing if the Yo-Yo Ma ad was up, I noticed that there is a new section on the page, Japanese switch ads - and they're in Japanese. And there is a whole Japanese switch site as well. http://www.apple.co.jp/switch/

I'm wondering if we won't see English/German/French/Italian etc. switch ads, there aren't any now.

The yoyoma ad was on the only political success for liberals this year, a fictional president.

That is perhaps the single most visible ad Apple has done in a while. It has a theme of "even a simpleton can run a mac", as poopsed to some of the other ads like "I can stick my camera into the computer seamlessly", or Hawk's, "we use macs to create our videos". It seems to me to suck in higher revenue customers one might TRY to put a hawk ad in a wide demo slot. You might get lucky.

Some of the ads on Meet the press have an audience of only a coule hundred industrial buyers and they keep running them. At least Apple could sell video editing solutions to tens of thousands of people not mere hundreds.

I would really like to see this yo-yo ma ad so I hope they have it up on the site soon, this is really the only "celebrity" so far that interests me and I hope they continue this route, everyone knows who Tony Hawk is but I really don't give two ****s about skatebording or surfing (slater.)

Ahum, the liberals bashed the socialists all over Europe this year (except for Germany).

I'm surprised that Apple chose Einar Om for an ad instead of Bjork (who used to be with Einar's band, the Sugar Cubes). I've heard that the latter is practically the official ambassador for Iceland!

Then again, Bjork might not be all that eager to have herself in an ad. That would be fine, mind you, it's just a bit surprising given her legendary status.

But who would have done the ad. Bjork or her swan dress?;)

Yeah, yeah, cheap shot, I know...

I know Bjork is a big mac fan, so maybe an ad will surface in the future, Radiohead are mac fans as well but would they do a commercial....one can only hope. Sigur Ros would be great for the Iceland website, but sadly I don't think they use macs.

Good luck, that's going to be tall order. I wonder if there are any members on MacRumors who know Icelandic? Other Scandinavian languages are simillar, but Icelandic is closer to what the Vikings spoke, weird.

I wish Apple would provide translations for the various ads on their website. Posting videos with subtitles in different languages would be really neat.

I realize that the probability is small that a MacRumors reader would know how to translate Icelandic. I did work with a graphic artist who grew up in Iceland.

That was my first thought as well. Apple, if you are listening, I PROMISE I will buy a new Mac if you get Bjork to do an ad! I'm in love with her and will do anything she tells me to...

And she can wear the swan dress if she wants to.:p

Haven't seen any members from Iceland around these boards, but it would be nice to have a translation.
Although im a scandinavian, I only understood maybe six or seven words...

Strange that a switch commercial would surface from a country that only has about 300.000 inhabitants....

Do you think Apple is doing the Superbowl this year?

I would love to see Apple get a high profile football player and do a Superbowl ad this year. Just the fact that Apple is not seen as "macho" would make it worthwhile, and I think it would really make a splash, and of course EVERYONE would see it.
