[iPad Mini] iPad mini 2 to have iPhone capabilities?

I have seen rumors on the internets

that this may be coming this year.
Anyone seen anything credible about this?

That would be super cool, can't imagine this doesn't eventually happen if not this year, soon.

Hopeful for at least better phone apps soon. Appears limited in Canada.

Skype could be great! Unfortunately for Canada at the moment we have this thing called CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) which in short "protects" related Canadian business monopolies from non-Canadian competition.

You want to use your iPad as a phone so you can stick your iPad up to your ear - that would look stupider than people using iPads and cameras.

I rarely use my iPhone held up to my ear. Almost always use it with a headset. It's only if I get caught without my headset handy and need to take the call that I use it like a "normal" phone.

Agreed. I don't see Apple mixing the lineups by adding phone capabilities to the iPad mini.
