Hello folks.

I want a 15" rMBP mirrored to a 2560x1600 Monitor and I was wondering if anyone can try it out and let me know if both screens can show up sharp and crisp?

I need mirrored not extended and I was wondering how the rMBP would handle it. I've tried it mirrored with a smaller 1900x1200 monitor and it worked perfectly, but I'd love to use a larger monitor (2560x1600)

I know the 13" is native to 2560x1600 but I need the power of the 15".

If someone can please try it out and let me know that would be so appreciated!

Many thanks,
Diego

Well the 15" MBP's native resolution is 2880x1800, so if you try to mirror the MBP and monitor at 2560 x 1600, the text on the MBP will not be crisp (or as crisp as 2880x1800.

I think you'll need a utility like SwitchResX to change the resolution to what you want.

If you want to mirror, there is no way, because the 15" has a native resolution of 2880x1800, while the external display has a native resolution of 2560x1600.

To keep both sides perfectly sharp, both sides must have the same native resolution, or mirroring must be disabled.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to remember but I think I was able to mirror with no problems using my old 2011 MBP (1400x900) to an Apple Cinema Display (2560x1600) and if I remember correctly everything was fine on both screens.

Would anyone with a 2560x1600 monitor be able to try it out please?

Thanks so much

I dropped by an Apple Store today to try some mirroring. I was only able to mirror a 13" MBP Retina to a Thunderbolt Display and it handled mirroring like a charm.

I set it to optimise for the Thunderbolt Display at 2560x1440 and the 13" MBP was still looking sharp - but the bottom edges were cut off of course since they are different aspect ratios. But both screens were sharp and very useable.

So would anyone be able to mirror a Thunderbolt Display to a 15" MBP and set it to optimise for the Thunderbolt Display? If it can handle the scaling and looks sharp on both screens, then it should be able to handle mirroring on a 2560x1600 since it's only 160 pixels taller.

Thanks and I hope someone can help!
