No mouse/keyboard after updating win drivers

I sort of hope I'm not the only one with this problem, and maybe someone can provide some solutions:

I was able to update my OS, install the firmware patch, and then create the necessary partition (12Gig) and install Windows XP completely on my MacBook Pro (2x2Gig); however, after two complete attempts at installing the MBP driver updates as directed by Apple, half-way through the update the mouse and keyboard stop working, and there seems to be no way to get them back again.

I've rebooted many times, tried safe mode, and ultimately reformatted and reinstalled XP again, but the same problem happens. The mouse/trackpad stops responding right before the window asking if I want to continue with the installation of the X1600 video drivers, so I never get to say "Yes" to that. I can shut down with the power button, but that's it.

OSX works fine, the drive selector on startup works fine, but the trackpad stops responding while XP is booting - and the mouse (if connected) light goes out at the same time. The caps-lock button on my keyboard doesn't even work when XP is running. When I installed XP the second time, everything worked normally until running the driver updates again. So it's the drivers, but how do I get around this, because the system is practically useless without them.

Any help is appreciated.

The mouse froze for quite a while for me during installation, I just let it sit there and eventually the mouse came back and the installation proceeded. There are quite a few periods where it looks like nothing is happening. Just wait it will proceed.

Thanks, but that's not the solution here... I waited 45 minutes and nothing happened. No matter what I try, my keyboard and mouse/trackpad become disabled part way through the macintosh driver updates that I created as directed, and I can't get them back. Restarting XP doesn't work, booting in safe mode doesn't work, nothing... XP still works, that's not the problem - it's the drivers that are at fault, they seem to disable the keyboard and/or USB input devices completely due to the failure installing.

Please, has anyone else experienced this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions about fixing it? Each time I try new things, I have to do a complete reinstall of XP to get to the driver installation, because I can't do anything with XP when I have no input control.

It's not like I want XP for very much, just a few small apps, and a game or two, but really, this thing should work.

Try doing the install the way Apple said only this time don't have any external usb mice or keyboards attached..
Plug them in after installing the drivers..

I have a MacBook Pro, and I don't have anything attached when performing the driver installations. I only tried adding the USB mouse after the keyboard went dead to see if I could at least press a button somewhere, but nothing works. After three complete attempts (following Apple's instructions, of course) the pattern is exactly the same each time. The keyboard/trackpad seem to 'disappear' just before the confirmation window about installing the X1600 drivers, and I never get to confirm their installation. Again, WinXP will boot fine even after this problem, but I can not recover control via keyboard at all.

I seriously don't know what was different with my fourth installation, but the drivers finally installed and everything is working as expected. The only thing I can think of is that I played with the OS for 5-10 minutes prior to performing the driver updates, and actually rebooted XP once during that time. Perhaps that's all that it needed...?

Just a heads up to anyone else that encounters similar problems... Keep trying, and possibly try a restart or two before actually installing the Macintosh drivers.

I am having the same exact problem, I installed the drivers, froz right after the video drivers, I forced a shut down and now the keyboard and mouse do not work..
restarting didn't help either.

help, I don't want to reinstall windows 4 times like the poster above.

All I can think of was that the last time I installed I had my ethernet cable plugged in, and the power cable, nothing else. I can't think that's the answer, because the ethernet settings don't work until you update the drivers, but who knows... Also, like I mentioned, I worked with XP for a few minutes before attempting to upgrade the drivers, and also restarted XP once. I was trying to get the internet working, but the drivers wouldn't work, so I just went to install the Mac drivers, and that time it worked.

No idea if that helps, but good luck.

I've had the same problem on the first try, but here is what i did and got it to work. First windows installation, froze on bootcamp video drivers, then i install windows again, this time i went through the Repair option instead of installing whole new windows. Then i re-run the bootcamp drivers cd, then waalaa..

Ok, I had the same problem... installed windows xp pro sp2 exactly according to boot camp instructions... ran and installed the drivers off the mac drivers CD burned before doing anything, and it caused my macbook pro's keyboard and trackpad to stop working. fiddled around with this for a while to get it to finally work. if you go to control panel > add or remove programs, scroll down to the list of 'Windows Driver Package,' you need to remove/uninstall the three things: 2 of those entries say something like (aat***), which i can't tell you exactly how it's spelled because I got rid of them, and the third is something that says keymedia. One of the three says mouse, if that helps. You're basically uninstalling the keyboard, trackpad, and mouse drivers, and voila! everything works now. Trackpad and keyboard. It's perfect and doesn't affect anything else. So frustrating, but finally stumbled upon fixing it.

btw: plug in at least a usb mouse. that might be obvious, but people might be whining about not being able to do anything once the keyboard and mouse freeze up.

My setup: migrated an XP SP2 bootcamp from MB to MBPro. USB mouse and built-in keyboard worked, but trackpad did not. Hardware manager showed two trackpads disabled.

On Pranzo's tip, I looked in add/remove programs under Windows drivers. I removed a bunch related to mouse and trackpad. Then I had to go back into Hardware manager and update the driver for the trackpad items in there that were disabled (marked with a red X).
