They need to drop the price of the standard Apple TV.

Overall I hate the pricing of the Apple TV.

Nice little addition I guess.

Well this is promising to all of those naysayers who only complain about the [small] 40GB hard drive...

$399 seems way too expensive for what it does. A price point of $349 would've been better (or just drop the 40GB and sell 160GB at $300 :/)

hahaha...I find it funny that of all updates we were expecting in the coming weeks, the first one is of a product that has only been around for a few months.

On the Mac mini, going from 80 to 160 costs $200.

I was under the impression that it wasn't that hard to open up and upgrade yourself?

$100 for 120GBs = expensive add on. Too bad they don't drop the base price and add a big drive option. 160GB fills up fast.

250-400GB Hard drives can be had for $75-100 at newegg.com

This makes sense - storage is cheap nowadays. I'm surprised the pricing isn't a little lower to tell you the truth...

Good luck fitting that 3.5" drive in.

The stock model is terrible now.

So True!

Is this Apple getting ready for HD content?

Now just add out of the box support for DivX, XviD, etc and I'll consider getting 1.

Those are 3.5" hard drives. Apple TV is 2.5". I just paid $100 for a 160GB drive for my MacBook.

Why in the world didn't they offer this in the first place? Thanks a lot, Apple.

Let's hope so! The current resolution sucks - I never realized it until trying to watch a clip of BSG on an Apple TV in the Vegas Apple Store - convinced me never to buy one, as the video looked horrendous...

meh, more space is nice, I just wish they would buy TiVo so I could dump my lousy cable DVR.

I know about elegato and such, but my G3 is too slow.

Aren't they 2.5" drives, which are more expensive, and have MUCH lower capacities

It deals with product marketing strategy and upselling. Apple is a business after all.

Damn it!

....I'm upset, but its what I get for buying right away. I'll get over it. AppleTV stream well so its not a HUGE deal, but still I would have liked to be able to see my pictures on my 40Gb one

I've wait for the next model! Also atleast Apple is giving me Youtube support!

I guess 40Gb is enough for me

So, putting this together with the YouTube on TV news ... I reckon they have also developed the user interface further so you can:

- Search using text for YouTube vids
- Buy films (movies) right from your sofa (couch)

I don't have one, but have heard that the Sony Bravia TVs they use are awful at the interlacing (or something technical), and most TVs are much better looking with iTS video on AppleTV
