More Details From AT&T Training Manual
![]() The AT&T Training manual (pdf link) posted by The Boy Genius Report is turning out to be a treasure trove of information. iPhone Bluetooth The iPhone currently supports two Bluetooth profiles: Hands-free (v1.5) and Headset. The Apple-branded Bluetooth headset uses Hands-Free Profile 1.5, and may be compatible with other third party Bluetooth enabled devices that support the profile. We have previously reported that Apple's Bluetooth headset would be priced at $129. 3rd Party Accessories Apple has created a "Works with iPhone" program, similar to the "Made for iPod" program. If the iPhone detects that a non-certified device is connected to the docking port, it will alert the user that the experience may be less than optimal, although doing so will NOT void the warranty. Such a method was recently described in an Apple patent. SIM Card Portability While AT&T and Apple have made it clear that the iPhone will not accept SIM cards from other carriers, the document does explain that it will be possible to move the iPhone's SIM card to other AT&T phones. MMS and IM messages sent from the new phone are included in the iPhone Data Plan. However, contacts added to the SIM while in another device will not appear in iPhone. Warranty/Repair Process Notable details are as follows: - iPhones which are Dead on Arrival(DOA) will not be exchanged over the counter. They must go through AppleCare. - Apple expects repair turnaround as 3 business days. - For a small fee, Apple will provide an AppleCare Service iPhone to the customer while their iPhone is repaired. |

iPhone can't read/write SIM contact information? Why the hell not? How hard would that have been to add Apple?

DOA - Must send in to Apple?
I don't agree with the DOA issue either. For $600, if the thing doesn't work out of the box, they should take them back or immediately replace them IMHO

Does this mean we won't be able to use Bluetooth keyboards with iPhone?

iPod Hi-Fi?
Re "Works with iPhone", I haven't seen any specific mention of the iPod Hi-Fi anywhere... anybody else?

DOA policy makes sense. ATT stores aren't going to be trained to recognize someone physically damaging it and trying to pass it off as DOA.

If I got an iPhone DOA, and they didn't exchange it RIGHT THERE, RIGHT THEN, I would be raising HELL. I can't IMAGINE the language and tone I'd be using.
God, just thinking of that BS, and how it'll probably happen to someone, just PISSES ME OFF! /End rant, and CAPS LOCK

SIM Portability is quite good news for me. I use a SonyEricsson right now and occasionally tether to it for data. The fact that I couldn't do this at all with the iPhone was kind of a bummer.
Now, (although slightly inconvenient), I will just carry my sony ericsson around in my laptop bag if I ever did need to tether and move the SIM from the iPhone to the SE. |

Maybe it's just a restriction on AT&T's side for whatever reasons.
More reason to purchase from an Apple store instead? |

And I think this should be taken as a pretty big hint as to these features eventually being added to the iPhone.

For me its not a big deal as presumably the iPhone will grab the numbers out of my Apple Addressbook, but I know plenty of people who are used to how SIM cards work, porting over their addressbooks from their old to new phones by sticking the old SIM in the new phone. How hard exactly would it have been to do this I wonder? Not hard I guess. Apple really seem to have spent a lot of time making this thing work differently than other phones. Sometimes its a good thing, sometimes its just shear bloody mindedness I think.

Your statement even makes LESS sense now that we have the information that the sales reps and managers can do nothing. Things break. Acting like a petulant child will get you nowhere. |

They mention that you can use the ATT SIM card in another ATT phone, but what about an unlocked phone from another provider? I have an unlocked T-mobile SDA, which I would keep post-iPhone purchase if I could still use it on occasion, for instance, when traveling. Any thoughts?

To be fair its pretty ridiculous that IM isn't part of the iPhone from launch. My 3 year old SE T637 has an IM app built in.
