Mac OS X Leopard 9A527 Gallery

ThinkSecret has posted a gallery of the latest Mac OS X Leopard Build.
Quote:
Build 9A527, distributed last week to developers, represents a substantial improvement over the previous build, 9A499. On the whole, the build performs faster and has far fewer bugs than before.
They write that the new build has continuing signs of refinement with high-resolution icons, smaller application sizes and other minor tweaks.

Cool, they're definitely close! I love Leopard, it looks so much more modern then Tiger. A big upgrade for sure.

Yea, it's looking better each time. I just still don't get the menu bar and the new desktop picture isn't very 'apple'.

Also, the dock looks crap on the side.

Yeesh, now the arrows on the Finder back/forward buttons are a few pixels too HIGH.

How hard is it to center something???

Geez, every build I find something to gripe about. I hate those new close/minimize/resize buttons.

Everything else looks awesome though.

I am rather pissed about the new seed ... what they did to the traffic lights is just terrible (Compared to last seed). I also REALLY hate the new menu bar. I really liked the previous one, it was clean and simple. I hate that line the put under it.

Apple if you are reading this, for the love of god please revert back the menu and traffic lights. (To the previous seed)

I really like the Red/Yellow/Green buttons up top of each window. They looks much more colorful and shiny!

The selected 'tab' looks similar to that in Coda.

No, there wasn't.

It's the “Here's to the crazy ones” poem!

A nice touch.

I thought the dock on the side picture looked amazing!

But I'm still kinda iffy about the new default desktop pic.

Seconded.

I usually don't find much to criticise Apple about in terms of aesthetics, but I am not liking the "cartoony-ness" that making Leopard's GUI more vector based has added to the OS.

Those traffic lights are waay oversaturated, and the shadow detail has been reduced. It's the classic case of the way artists see things as opposed to the way others do. Most people think that "red is red" and probably the brighter or the more red it is the better. They don't understand that all the good colours are in the middle of the colour wheel. I thought Apple got this though. Makes me wonder what happened.

Don't you think the embossed/engraved items are overdone also? I mean how "fake deep" is the fake engraving supposed to go? Not to mention that way of highlighting something on a tool bar by putting two shaded "cuts" on either side? Yuk!

I keep expecting Roger Rabbit's head to pop out from behind one of the windows, or for Corel Draw's artists to come back from the 90's and sue Apple over "common look and feel."

It seems that the only UI element that hasn't been changed is the aqua checkboxes, sliders, progress bars, and buttons. I'm guessing that they will change to a silvery color to match the dock lights, and the buttons will look like the ones in iPhoto'08's web gallery (the ones that appear in the sheets.) Interestingly, these buttons are in Helvetica--do you think OS X will use this font in replace of Lucida Grande to match the iPhone? It's already present in the new Time Machine prefpane.

Anyone know if they've gotten rid of the irritating "feature" of being unable to disable display of certain hours in iCal? Namely the ones in which I am sleeping, since I try to avoid appointments and other scheduled events during that time period?

It's not a mystery. The old style would was muddy and flat, especially taking into consideration requirements for resolution independence. As for being "oversaturated," the base colors are fundamentally the same (which is easily confirmed on machines running the builds), they've just adjusted the glossing and shadow to something that scales better.

Actually, the whole thing is shaded. Depth of field is critical on neutral tones. Using a grey background requires exaggeration of features. That said, I think there are other possible ways to show the current tab, but it's not something where you want subtlety. It's supposed to be an immediate visual reference, otherwise it's useless. It's also not clear what you want as the fidelity reference. Certainly a photographic standard doesn't make sense.

That's just funny. The traffic light buttons are barely lighter than the current ones (they are more futuristic though) and the menu bar doesn't have any more or less of a line under it in Leopard than it does in Tiger. Your entitled to your opinion, but these are really insignificant things. Maybe I've missed something with the menu bar, which picture are you referring to?
