XP via both Boot Camp and Parallels?

On my Mac Pro, I have Windows XP partitioned by Parallels. That works fine for most of what I need Windows for, but for gaming I need to run Windows XP via Boot Camp.

I'm not too worried about the disk space on my Mac Pro, which has 2 TB of storage, but I just bought a MacBook Pro and that will only have 160 gig.

To run XP via both Parallels and Boot Camp, do I actually need two partitions, or can I run the Windows XP virtual machine from Parallels using the XP on the Boot Camp partition?

And...if I am running Windows XP on the same machine in two different partitions, will I need two separate licenses?

you can run your boot camp partition in parallels and do not need 2 licenses

Parallels will run from the BC partition as if it were a Parallels bottle. I do this constantly, and actually boot directly into Windows less & less all the time.

i actually run my boot camp partition with fusion and have been booting directly into windows more and more as i use windows mainly for one game... once my job starts up in january i may be using fusion more since i'll have a need for microsoft office again... regardless i enjoy the ability of running windows natively or virtually... i found it much more valuable than running windows only virtually and having the ability to suspend and open the virtual machine quicker

I appreciate the responses. When the MacBook Pro arrives on Monday, it sounds like I should set up a Boot Camp partition and install a new version of XP first, then install Parallels and get it to make a virtual machine based on the OS on the Boot Camp partition?

Yes but make sure not to activate until after you've installed parallels and got it to work with the bootcamp partition!
