Europeans get drunk 'to have sex'

They questioned young people in nine cities, one each in the UK, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Slovenia - who all routinely went to pubs, bars and nightclubs.

Early use of alcohol and other drugs was closely linked to having sex under the age of 16 years, in all countries, especially in girls.
Almost half of participants in Vienna, Austria had drunk alcohol and had sex by the time they were 16 compared with 36% in Venice, Italy, 37% in Palma, Spain and 30% in Liverpool.

The same was true for those who took drugs under the age of 16 but there were variations in popularity of different drugs among different countries.

More than a quarter of youngsters taking cocaine said they used it to prolong sex and drug use in general was linked to having multiple partners.

I agree with you on this one mate. Although let's be honest, you could substitute Glasgow for any UK city and you'd end up with similar results. How this study can be classified as "news" rather than general knowledge, known for decades if not centuries, is beyond me! The only thing that surprises me is that only 30% of Liverpudlian kids have drank alcohol and had sex by 16.

We're Britain, we've got a "reputation" to think of. We may have a poor record when it comes to sporting events but I always thought we came out on top when it came to teenage pregnancies, underage drinking and general yobbishness. Something that we could all be proud of. But only 30%? I was expecting at least 60! What a disappointment.

On that note, I once had a friend who had drunk sex with a drunk girl. The next morning, he wakes up on the floor where they had sex, and finds a big piece of poo on his chest.
