Apple Sydney Store Unveiled, Opens June 19th

Apple recently took the wraps off their first Apple Retail store in Australia and officially announced the date and time for the grand opening. The Sydney, Australia store will have its grand opening on Thursday, June 19th, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This means the store will be open in time for the Australian launch of the iPhone 3G on July 11th.

Located at 77 King Street, the three story building is expected to have about 1335 square meters of floor space. Two other Apple Stores are expected to follow: one in Melbourne, and another in Sydney.

Additional photo galleries of the new store can be found here: gallery one, gallery two, and gallery three (by Kenneth Nordahl).

Awesome! And it's opening so soon too. Congratulations to all the Aussies who have been waiting for this for so long.

Wow, it's incredible.

It's even more incredible that some idiot has already rated this story as a "negative". It's currently at 2 positives, 1 negative right now.

Close. I live in Wollongong, but that's kind of close. It would be really weird for me to just make the 2 hour journey to the opening. It's not a huge store, so if I want to go inside, I'd have to be one of those losers who sits outside for like 2 days just for a free t-shirt. Crazy. I guess it may be worth it if they gave a special Australian Apple t-shirt that said something cool, like "Apple Goes Down Under". It would be a nice Apple t-shirt with a nice double entendre.

It looks long, but it doesn't appear to have a lot of "girth".

I took a flight down to Sydney from Brisbane earlier today to be here at the opening. I'm ofc. doing other stuff down here too..

I'm Kenneth noted in the first post and I can promise that my gallery gets updates during the next 2 days(who does not want to see images of a line of geeks etc.).

Btw, this post is made on my iPhone connected to the apple store wireless.

Ps. Every oz should show up tomorrow for the best apple store opening ever!

Looks much nicer (and bigger) than any of the three Toronto stores.
Long overdue!

good for you Aussies.... I hope with a store that size, they have more Apple related software in stock, and you can get customized units in the store. Plus I hope they have more training rooms. Us who have smaller Apple stores can still only buy a few things in the store, and whenever they do their training sessions - the store is so packed it is hard to move around.

I wonder when they will open my Greensboro, NC store.... Everyone (news channels, newspapers, even Apple) said it was coming and is going to be in Friendly Center. It was supposed to open this past spring - but is not yet. I would rather drive 35 min to Greensboro instead of the 1 hr to Durham, although my wife likes that mall.....

Also, I know the Durham store is in an upscale mall, but since Sharper Image went out of business, apple needs to break the wall down and incorporate next door to give a little breathing room....

Still waiting for one in Ireland.

I believe Apple's corporate European HQ is in Ireland for tax purposes, but they don't seem to think we're worth even one retail store ... ah well, I'll wish on.

I know! I just visited a few weeks ago and was stunned to find that there was no Apple store there. I hear there's a huge tech boom in the Dublin area and no Apple store? What the eff?
