LinktoApp.com App Store Linking Tool, New [app] Tag for Forums

Check out http://linktoapp.com

Linking tool for "conversational" App Store Linking, like on forums.

http://linktoapp.com/aim
http://linktoapp.com/super+monkey+ball

Needs the exact name, otherwise falls back to iTunes search.

Lemme know if there's a problem with it.

The [app] tag

We have added a markup tag named [app] to make it convenient for you to reference iTunes App Store applications in your posts. It makes use of LinktoApp.com.

Here's how to use it:
To mention an application and produce a link to it, enclose the application name in [app] and [/app] tags.

For example, if you type
It's great that [app]Facebook[/app] and [app]To Do[/app] are free!
it will come out as
It's great that Facebook and To Do are free!
If you want to use text that doesn't match the application name, use the longer form:
Put the application name inside your opening app tag. It's a good habit to use + signs instead of spaces between words.

For example, if you type
I go ape over a [app=super+monkey+ball]monkey-related game[/app].
it will come out as
I go ape over a monkey-related game.
The syntax and examples of [app] and other markup tags are shown in our vB Code List.

Here's another example: the list of weather-related applications in the iTunes App Store, using LinkToApp:
AeroWeather
AirWX Aviation Weather
Fizz Weather
ForeFlight Mobile
Hong Kong Weather
iCSC Clear Sky Chart
MyWeather Mobile Weather
Nav Clock
New Zealand Snow Reports
RadarScope
TideApp
Weather History
WeatherAlert
WeatherBug
WeatherNZ
Who is Hot?
To create the list above, I typed
[app]AeroWeather[/app]
[app]AirWX Aviation Weather[/app]
[app]Fizz Weather[/app]
[app]ForeFlight Mobile[/app]
[app]Hong Kong Weather[/app]
[app]iCSC Clear Sky Chart[/app]
[app]MyWeather Mobile Weather[/app]
[app]Nav Clock[/app]
[app]New Zealand Snow Reports[/app]
[app]RadarScope[/app]
[app]TideApp[/app]
[app]Weather History[/app]
[app]WeatherAlert[/app]
[app]WeatherBug[/app]
[app]WeatherNZ[/app]
[app]Who is Hot?[/app]

Cool

I must admit I've never heard of the app tag before.

Probably going to be helpful to some people here, and macrumors as both seem to benefit from this

thats awesome!

Its useful to use if you don't want to have to type in or copy and paste the long link like "ax.itunes.apple.com..."

theres a small bug i've found when two applications share the same name. There is no way to distinguish between the two using [ app]

I think it will just search, I don't think there is a way around it.

Excellent!

Now I just have to figure out how to get Safari to recognize iTunes links again. When I click on a link it goes to the iTunes link loading page but then never goes anywhere. I have to fall back to opening it up in Camino which obviously is a waste of time.

Can't you just do http://itunes.com/app/[tag]?

I.e. http://itunes.com/app/boxd

Is there any tool like this that tracks the links into the AppStore? Like by using this URL you can tell that you got "5" clicks into the Appstore.
