OmniGraffle or Concept Draw?
Dear All,
I recently switched to Mac from PC and I need an application to replace Visio. I used Visio for doing flowcharts and UML Diagrams. I found out about OmniGraffle and Concept Draw, but can't seem to find a review comparing the two of them. If anyone has had experience with one or both programs coming from Visio, I would greatly appreciate the comments. Thanks!

You could download trial versions of both applications, OmniGroup offers a limited version of OmniGraffle for free, and Concept Draw is available as a 30-day trial.
I use OmniGraffle and I think it's a fantastic application, but I have never tried Concept Draw and I'm not coming from Visio. |

i use omnigraffle as well...it's a really good program. i believe they allow visio imports, so you can check on that. can't help you with the comparative aspects, but i can give a vote for omnigraffle. the pro version is also very good.

In my opinion Omni missed the ability to explode the indented text to various levels and Conceptdraw can do that.
I’ve tried omnigraffle and conceptdraw, they both do a good job but conceptdraw seems to be more powerful tool. I like the appearance of the diagrams Conceptdraw produces and this is an important consideration for me. What i found interesting they provide their own office suite for mind mapping, project management and diagramming that works with ms products via xml , the project module also support xml. In a combination with Conceptdraw Office this drawing tool can do much more than expected from the charting software, like live dashboards, visual reporting, interactive and smart mindmapping. Quote:

I used to use Viso a lot for flowcharts to document procedures and workflows. OminiGraffle is a better product IMO than Viso.

I’ve tried Omnigraffle and Conceptdraw, they both do a good job but Conceptdraw with its new smart connectors seems to be more powerful tool for diagraming. I have ia issue with the mini-inspector, which puts “the most common inspector controls at your fingertips.” Feature is handy, but why isn’t there a control in the mini-inspector for fonts
? Likewise, there is no inspector option for changing the basic diagram type. Instead, you have to select “choose diagram style” from the format menu. With other diagram controls accessible from the Inspector, this just feels odd and is certainly not intuitive for new users.
