rocking. i've been wanting someone to do a comparison between ssd and hd. do you have your performance setting to low? i have pretty much the same setup and in xbench received a score of 150. that's with a 2.66 17" unibody with grafx set to best performance. i'm really curious to see how much your score goes up with ssd. if it's a lot, and i think it will, i'm going to order one as soon as the 500gb ones come out.

Performance is set to high but I'm just doing the disk test and not a graphics test.

where did you get the 256gb samsung? looks like ebay is the only place that really has any. most are going for around 900 bucks. seems high.

Did you happen to time boot up time to compare before ssd and after ssd?

Just curious.

Not sure if you care, but it would def be nice to know if bootcamp works with the Samsung 256 GB SSD.

Yeah the are a pretty penny right now.

I still can't get over how much faster everything is right now.

Tonight I'll be installing the MCE optibay which allows me to add the 500GB hard drive in place of the superdrive. I'll post pics.

Grats!

I'm planning to do exactly the same as you, except I'll make do with my 64GB Samsung SSD for now :).

However, I would love to know if you notice much difference in battery life since there are two drives. Also, could you comment on how easy it is to remove the SuperDrive?

I'd love to get one of these puppies and toss it in using the OptiBay…*but like $950 on eBay, man oh man. A bit torn between the Sammy and the Intel 160GB X25… =|

that drive looks so sweet. I'm on edge about buying a 17'', but I given the mediocre ( at best) reviews of the apple ssd, I definitely want a samsung drive. Why is samsung so slow at getting these to market? are they just overwhelmed by supplying direct--> companies?

Very nice. Jeez even your 500GB 7200 drive is twice as fast as my stock 250GB 5400 drive lol.

That Samsung drive looks super fast though. The onboard catch probably made the biggest difference.

I would like to see this drive compared to the new OCZ Vertex SSD... that would sure be a head to head battle!
