I'm gaming with COD4 and others of the same intensity. Going all out for ultimate iMac 24".

I would just assume the 4850 is a better graphics card... so my question is... is it really worth the extra money? Is it that much better?

Also have to wait 4-6 weeks for shipment on a 4850!

You dont need the 4850 for COD4, you can play COD4 on a MBP comfortably with the 9600M so only get it if you have the money spare.

^^^Why did you bring up a laptop in this thread? Seems like a rather poor recommendation when he's interested in buying a desktop.

I'd get the 4850. From what I've read, the standard card isn't so great. I'd be OK with it, but then again, I don't game. ;)

Its something called a real world comparison, generally helps people make decisions. I was trying to show if a crappy MBP 9600 can play COD4 in maxed out settings easily, he doesnt need to worry about anything that a Mac Pro can do.

See here or here. The MBP's 9600M may not be so bad, but only compared to iMacs.

They're mostly just renamed cards. The GT 130 is pretty much a 9600-series card.

He's not talking about a Mac Pro, and none of the Mac Pros have a GT 130 option. Mac Pros have a GT 120, which is worse than the earlier 8800 card from Nvidia, and worse than the GT 130 in the iMac that we're actually talking about.

Did you read his post?

Get the 4850 for a little future proofing. You'll probably regret it if you don't.

GT130 or Radeon 4850

hi

i'm a newbie as well and i was wondering about
those graphics cards since it is really confusing stuff

i would like to use my new imac to :

- do a lot of graphic design in cs 4
- some video editing
- some 3d graphics in ZBrush
- and maybe a little bit of gaming like cod 4

i like to have a lot of programs open at the same time
since i switch between them a lot...
and a lot of windows on the mac open as well
and i have sometimes 50- 100 files on the desktop ( skrivebord )

so what graphics card would you recomend me ?

RADEON 4850 card or the GT130 ?

-frode
