I currently have an ipod touch first generation. I was wondering, if I brought this to the mac store would i get a free second gen. upgrade? Or do I need to buy a whole new itouch?

It would be a wonderful world to live in indeed if every time a new revision of a product was released all you had to do was go to the store with your old model for a free trade-in.

In the real world that's a pretty poor business model.

Yes, you have to buy a new one. 😛

You would have to buy a new one. If you turned yours in they may give you a very small discount on a new one, but that is about it.

This thread needs to be put to bed!

Gotta go.....Jeep just came out with a new redesigned Wrangler and I need to trade my '98 model in!!🙄

When the 2nd gen iPod touch came out, i called apple and asked the same question

They offered 10% off from their recycling program. but besides that, they make you buy a new one.

best thing to do would be sell it, use the money you make and put that towards the newer ipod touch 🙂

Yeah you could probably get $100 to $150 on ebay for it. That's a good portion of the way to 2nd gen. It's not enough to justify an upgrade though I don't think.

My suggestion would be to wait for the 3G when it comes out.

Luckily my iPod 1G had a problem and I was able to get a gift card worth $400 (16GB iPod Touch 1G) out of which $300 was used for the 2G and the rest in groceries. It would be great if the same happened when the 3G comes out- or I can do it intentionally but that is unethical.

Edit: I forgot to mention... I bought my iPod at Sam's Club.
