mDP to VGA adapter limit at 1600x1200@60Hz

OK, this is not cool. I bought the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and I cannot run my Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070SB anything better than 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz.

This monitor can do resolutions higher than that, but 1600x1200 is the native, and I usually run it at 100 Hz from my Cube. 60 Hz is not good for the eyes/head with a CRT.

This is totally unacceptable.

Sounds like you may need some better drivers to allow for the correct options to appear.

I already have the latest adapter firmware revision and even SwitchResX.

Is there an NVIDIA control panel?

Unfortunately CRT monitors are mostly outdated at this point, so I'd recommend getting an LCD if you need a better resolution (not to mention the crisper image from a DVI connection).
There is no NVIDIA control panel as Apple writes the drivers for the chip.

I don't want to get rid of my PRO CRT, which would be a hassle. I also needed for another old 4:3 computer and I got no more space.

I'm not interested in getting a 4:3 20" LCD. I want at least a 1920x1200 24".
But I need to keep a 4:3 monitor.

Also, AFAIK, LCDs still don't match CRTs for color.

Using an IPS panel will give you nearly all the benefits of a CRT.

There are no 25" 4:3 LCDs 1920 pixels wide, and it would be worse than a CRT at lower resolutions.

May I ask why you need a 4:3 monitor?

Is any of the third party adapters any better? I see 1920x1200 advertised. Many brands just seem rebadges of the same device, and I also see "Apple firmware update required"

Is the DAC in the MBP or the adapter?

Thanks
