Disk utility only has a crc-32 image checksum option by default, to enable more you may have to enter
Code:
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility advanced-image-options 1
in terminal before :)

Is the inclusion of the Starbucks cup, some kind of "cool" statement?. Starbucks isn't cool at all, and your picture has therefore become a cliche. :D

his MD5s aren't the same as the OP's.
yes.... i believe that is because the md5 of the OP was just the dmg itself, while i mounted the dmg and ran the md5 image checksum with disk utility.

but please - to be sure just do the same:
(mount and select the dmg in disk util.)

Bingo, thanks for confirming that.

I just checked and MD5s are a go-go :D

So as suspected 10A432 is the same as the retail release, and contrary to some peoples posts on MR there was no "debug" version or changes.

Seems we go through this with each OS Upgrade - someone is always convinced the Dev seed isnt the GM, and that its full of "Debug" code :)

Which one?

Which one is the retail?

1d1fb7eca55470143c153f7f902b4ada
or
$817F2D9CFB56885D6E8E3FD99855B69

Or are they the same just encoded differently?

They're the same, MD5 being calculated differently in each case (see earlier posts).

What about the UTD disk? Any word on whether the md5 is the same?

i'm guessing it will be the same. why would apple bother to create different version of 10.6, it's not "apple like", glad to know they didn't pull a "microsoft" on this OS release.

I am not quiet sure if the GM really is the retail. I found this procedure:

1. Insert DVD / mount disk image
2. Open the folder called "instructions" (name depends on your language settings)
3. right click or control-click on the item called "Installation Instructions" and pick the option "Show package contents"
4. Open the /Contents/resources/French.lproj folder
5. Open the pdf document entitled "Instructions d’installation.pdf"

What does this document describe? 10.6 or 10.5? snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg still describes 10.5. Somehow I don't believe that Apple made this release the retail version without correcting this (and maybe more) "bugs".

It's 10.5 on the retail DVD too.

I did a recursive diff on the ADC 10A432 and the Mac Box Set retail disk:

Code:
$ diff -r /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD\ 2
Binary files /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/.DS_Store and /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/.DS_Store differ
Only in /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2: .Trashes
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/.file: Permission denied
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/.file: Permission denied
Binary files /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/Instructions.localized/Installation Instructions.app/Contents/Resources/French.lproj/Instructions d’installation.pdf and /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/Instructions.localized/Installation Instructions.app/Contents/Resources/French.lproj/Instructions d’installation.pdf differ
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/bin/tar: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/bin/tar: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/lib/libpython.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/lib/libpython.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/lib/libpython2.5.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/lib/libpython2.5.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/lib/libpython2.6.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/lib/libpython2.6.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/lib/libruby.1.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/lib/libruby.1.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/usr/lib/libruby.dylib: No such file or directory
diff: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD 2/usr/lib/libruby.dylib: No such file or directory

What the Terminal result shows is that the only significant difference is in the PDF for the French-language instructions.

On the ADC disk "Instructions d’installation.pdf" are instructions for 10.5 (13 pages). The file weighs 1 MB and is dated November 19, 2008.

In contrast, the same file on the Mac Box Set correctly gives instructions for 10.6 (8 pages). The file weighs 98 KB and is dated July 21, 2009.
