Starbucks announced that they would be activating free Wi-Fi access across all U.S. locations starting on July 1st. The move is seen as a response to increased competition from other chains which already offer free Wi-Fi to their customers.

iPhone customers have already enjoyed free Wi-Fi at Starbucks stores in conjunction with AT&T. While the move negates this advantage for iPhone customers, it opens up more free Wi-Fi hotspots to iPod Touch and iPad owners who were previously excluded from the service.

My father says that Starbucks tastes exactly like cheap/reheated 5 hours old coffee

is this going to make there coffee taste better?

More importantly, will it make the coffee cheaper? Then again, I always see my $4.50 that I pay for coffee as a per hour rate: about $1.50/hour for my three hours if internet access. Not bad, I guess.

Thank God, about time!

While their coffee certainly isn't the best (or even great), it's certainly not as bad as some of the elitists in here seem to think.

Ask Apple
Just yesterday I was thinking how quaint it was that I had to have a membership to log onto their internet while sipping on my VJCF and looking at MacRumors.com.

This is great news! Hopefully they'll offer the same in the UK and their competitors will follow suit. I'd be far more likely to stay in a café for another drink or two if I can get free wifi there.

I've been usinf wifi for free at starbucks for over a year now. All you had to do was put $5 on a gift card every month. Have they now changed that requirement
?

Yep, it's unlimited and totally free to everyone now (starting July 1).

No but the point is that now it's unlimited i.e. no 2 hour time limit. It's the same treatment that paying sbc/att/tmo customers get, posting up @ 5:00 AM and leaving at 9:00 pm, working on a book or something dumb like that.

FunFact: the average American household is situated within the 30-foot WiFi range of 2.47 Starbucks stores.

P.S. All coffee is awful. Load it with fat and sugar, though, and I’ll take it!

I knew they would cave eventually, but they held on a lot longer than I would have thought.
