So this is annoying, the same cord works on my friends iPod, not mine, and other iPods work on my computer.

My cord will charge my iPod, but my MacBook won't ever recognize it's there. I've tried reseting the iPod holding down the middle and menu button, fully charging the iPod, restarting my computer a couple times, and even downloading iTunes again.

Any ideas to get my mac to recognize that my ipod is attached thru the usb port?? any advice would be helpful! thanks!

yep, no such luck. Apple has a tutorial to try to solve it, but it didn't work for me. it was reseting the ipod, restarting, checking to see if the cord works, and stuff like that. it makes me think this is a common problem if apple recognizes it
