A New Computer Set-up

I am planning on buying a new iMac and wondered if there is anything I need to know when I first set up a new iMac? I have never owned or used a Mac.

Not 100% sure if this is still the case in Mountain Lion, but the firewall for whatever reason isn't on by default. Be sure to pay the Security Settings section in System Preferences a visit once you get the computer. Otherwise it's pretty straight forward! I made the jump in 2002 and couldn't have been happier!
