How many android handsets end up in the landfill before their time because they are made of cheap plastic and never receive a single software update? In contrast, iPhones are made of materials that are both durable and readily recyclable and they typically get 5-6 years of updates on average.

You can choose to resell your iPhone online or simply send it in for recycling if you don't want to deal with the hassle. To each their own, really.
It’s not all a dreams and magic. The glass isn’t recycled and it contains some unextractable rare earth elements. There is a fair amount of trash in an iPhone. They recycle the metal because they’ve figured out how to make more profit with cheaper parts. You are giving them free materials if you just send it in for free. They then use your phone to essentially make a new one and charge you again for the metal. What this is essentially is a metal subscription service lol. While it’s great Apple is doing this, don’t pretend it’s not for their own benefit first. These are still made by the marketing department.

Recycling should be a last resort, only when a device cannot possibly be used. Unfortunately, Apple has often accelerated the path to recycling by making devices that are nearly or completely unrepairable, and totally unable to be upgraded. Even if one chooses to simply buy the latest and greatest (as many people here may do), it's just better for everyone if your old device can be reconditioned or upgraded to serve someone else's needs.

Well, the amount could be more or less, depending on the size of the item. Bigger items presumably contain more recycleable materials.
Yeah, I was just trying to show my cynicism that some people would never be pleased.
