I've been using apple devices since iPhone 3G and this has never happened to me. This is the first time an iOS update has bricked my devices. People have a right to complain about a sloppy update.

Same here. I hit install on the update, came back, and there was a 'Connect to iTunes' symbol. iPhone 6S Plus.

Restoration failed via iTunes and now it's trying the same thing once more... Downloading 2.3.5 a 2nd time.

Yeah, lot of misconception of what "bricked" actually is here... I remember the days when a device could truly be "bricked" and the solution was to get a new phone.

That said, every year when the updates come down, there always has been and always will be issues the first day or two due to sheer server load. I'd say it's very likely that the update files have become corrupted.

That's what I am thinking as well. Granted there should be hash checks the installer should do before installing, but that's just an assumption on my part.

Bricked both my iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Pro. Have to do a clean fresh install with iTunes. I'll try doing an update from iTunes on my next device to see if it can be updated without having to wipe everything.

Bricked! Downloaded pretty quick (10min or so) installed white Apple logo and then the cable iTunes symbol.

iPhone 6s + with 9.3.5 before the BRICK. iTunes is downloading 9.3.5 at a snails pace.

Thanks Apple!

same. thing. just. happened. to. me.

downloaded on 6s via wifi while plugged into MBP for power. Install finished, then error message saying "iPhone encountered a problem and needs to be recovered or updated." Clicked update. iTunes now downloading 9.3.5 while showing iPhone in "recovery" status

An iPhone is virtually impossible to "brick". "Bricking" a device means that it will no longer work, so it basically becomes an expensive paper weight. The fact that you are able to restore means that something happened in the OS. Let's use terms properly.
I'm not able to restore.

No thanks. Let the other early adopters post comments on how this update bricked their device first. I usually wait a few weeks before downloading.

Ok, my device is *currently* a brick.

So it's literally the same firmware like GM. 10.0.1.

Nothing seems to be buggy so far.

PSA :
If the update "bricks"
Just plug it into Itunes and hit Update not restore.
If it completes, you will not lose your data.

NOTES
What's happening?
The OTA update version might be corrupt. The update will download completely, verify prior to install, go into the Apple update screen, then crash into the "Plug into iTunes" screen. The update bar went as far as about 75% - 80%.

Who is affected?
So far, only iPad Pros, iPhone 6S / S+ and iPhone SEs have complained of corrupt installs. All of those who have complained used OTA updates, so it may affect more.

What do I do?
1.) DO NOT USE OTA UPDATES - it's the most common culprit in the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
2.) IF YOU ARE UPDATING, USE USB + iTUNES. Those who have been successful have used the iTunes download. Slower, but working.
3.) IF YOU ARE BRICKED - Plug into iTunes and use "Update" to clear out your problem. You don't need to do a full restore, thankfully. I've done a simple update and everything worked swimmingly.
4.) IF AN UPDATE FAILED - Plug into iTunes and use "Restore". This will clear out your iDevice completely. If you have a backup for your device, you can restore your previous state from iTunes after the restore is complete.

Should be common knowledge to all Apple i users anyhow. :p

You know, telling people that while their phones are inoperable isn't going to win you friends or impress peers. In fact, it might be detrimental to your health.

Just saying...

I was supposed to be leaving work in 15 minutes, but I guess not, because I am now stuck restoring **** via iTunes and then have to wait for restoring from iCloud backup. Thanks Apple!

Last time I am ever updating anything on launch day.
