I think another small new feature is the possibility to block the invite friends feature in Game Center.

You need to be a PAID Apple developer, this is not a Golden Master Release, this is a developer only pre release beta not for public distribution. Wait patiently.

The last 2 betas were easily installed WITHOUT a developer account, by option-updating (as opposed to restoring). He was asking if this third beta can be updated in a similar fashion without being a developer. Great way to gain multitasking and folders before the official release.

yes it works! i got it working on my ipad for beta 1 and 2 so i think beta 3 is the same

You failed to answer the question. I did not need confirmation for the first two betas, which i also installed via this method... but confirmation on today's release. Don't assume it will work...

They suck but there's lots of them

I agree, I didn't think something could suck and blow at the same time but these 'tunes' are it :p

Newb question. Is there a way to update the OS without doing a full restore then resync?

The new SMS sounds are iPhone 4 only, but perhaps that will change before the official release.

FWIW, beta 2 was stable enough (for me) for day to day use... A few issues here & there but nothing to make me give up folders ;)

Not true. The first two betas of 4.2 (for iPad, at least) did not require UDID registration...

Apologies, Im a iPhone developer. For us you needed to have UDID registered to install. Very odd that iPad developers (or not) didn't need any type of registration verification.

Ipad Upgrade

I have just upgraded my Ipad from 3.2.2 to 4.2. So far I am liking what I see nice job apple. For being a beta build its snappy and quite honestly so far behaves nicer then 3.2.2 at least from my perspective.

Great job

Same here. I had a few bugs with beta1 that were fixed in beta2. I've hardly encountered any bugs with beta2. Definitely not worth giving up app-switching and folders, among other features.

And yes, I installed the first 2 betas with no developer account, just option-updated. Very simple and trouble-free.

Newb question. Is there a way to update the OS without doing a full restore then resync?

When I upgraded from beta 1 to beta 2, I just used option+update and selected the .ipsw and it installed and synced just fine. I haven't tried it with beta 3. no restoring needed...
