Given Apple's ridiculous mindshare at this point I wonder what any additional advertising does.

Exactly. Some people aren't interested in how it works etc, I am, but encounter many like this.

Lots of people are pretty clueless about their product. This goes the same for both Mac and PC users. I don't mean it in a bad way, but there are people that never cares to learn anything about it. At the first sign of trouble they simply call up a friend to ask question.

Complete BS. Those were clearly meant for a long run. They know they took them down based on negative reception.

Given how much an ad slot or the Olympics costs (easily 6-7 figures) it is very plausible they were meant for one run.

----------

Apple will never admit that they did something wrong.

The iPhone4 hasn't got a faulty antenna, you're just "holding it wrong".
.

And haters will never stop hating and hitting the hyperbole.

It was like 1/10th of one percent of US phone on AT&T in **** service areas. Not the major design flaw you are trying to make out.

And given the price of ad time yes it is plausible they only bought the one slot for the Olympics. Next week you'll see them on regular broadcast

Right. 'cuz if there's one thing we all agree on about Apple, it's how little money they have to spend on advertising, and how frugal they are with their ad buys.

It's okay to admit when you screw up.

"Genius" was Josh Rabinowitz

Josh Rabinowitz is a 24 year-old comedian in New York City. In July 2012, he was selected as a “New Face” at the Montreal “Just For Laughs” Comedy Festival, and in November 2011, he was named one of Comedy Central’s 2011 “Comics to Watch” at the New York Comedy Festival. He has been featured on Comedy Central’s “Live On Campus Tour” and “CollegeHumor Live.” He also played “Kent” on MTV’s “I Just Want My Pants Back.”

Well, whatever happens, it can't be any worse than the Sculley/Spindler/Amelio eras, when RIP was a real possibility.

That's funny looking back. Many comments were solid: focus, reducing product confusion, even "renewing" the MS relationship.

Sell to Sun (now Oracle) would've been epically terrible.

But The Woz had the worst take of all... that everything was fine and one person wouldn't make a difference at Apple.

Right, because no other phones drop calls. Next!
Haha, what sort of argument is that?

Ahh charlituna, we meet again and your imaginary stats :)

There is scientific proof that it was a design flaw. Don't blame AT&T, because not only Americans faced that issue.

I think it was the one with tanks surrounding it... joking about the fact they were too powerful to legally export in some cases. That may have been over 10 years ago.

Lol, the Mac Pro didn't exist 10 years ago.... Apple was still using G4s =P

And speaking of G4s, yeah, that's what the commercial was.. it introduced the Power Macintosh G4 (at 450 MHz, at the time)..... and it wasn't a joke, they actually weren't legally allowed in some countries bc of their FLOPS performance ratings.

This is the last.
YouTube: video

That's a G5.

I don't think there's ever been a Mac Pro commercial.

Well, I love The Woz as much as the next guy, and he is a technical wizard. He is probably better known for his Segway polo skills than for his business acumen. :)

Dumb ad

I'd rather watch a 30 second video of a boot logo and spinning gear instead of these new ads

There still is a gap, but it's not the same gap it was....used to be they looked for the "any" key and the CD drawer was a cup holder. At least now the majority of folks have basic skills.

Absolutely, definitely agree with you here.

Wait....the G4 tower was introduced at 350MHz. Or are you saying the commercial was for the 450s?

Please Apple, drop the "Genius" title for your shop assistants. If there's any way to make your company seem smug and self-righteous then that's the way to do it.

I'm sure Einstein would be selling iPad's if he were alive right? Just call them Apple Assistants/Helpers, whatever, if someone comes up to me in a shop and says "Hi, I'm a genius" I instantly think "tool".

Ironic, with the name 'Jimrod'....I instantly think of "tool"

And "ZMacintosh" makes me think of some kind of nerd rapper but nevermind. You think the term "Genius" is apt for a shop assistant then? I will remember to pop in when I'm struggling with my theoretical physics problems.

Guys are we really getting this upset about some commercials and that 'Steve would never let this happen'?

because they sucked ass and were insulting as ever.

(birth and mac equivalent, didn't see the plane spot)

i remember a day when using mac made me a better computer user and not someone constantly looking for better 3rd party alternative solutions...

A lot of people are scrubs, these commercials almost did not have a point at all, but that's what made them fun to watch, you can call me retard, but I liked those commercials...

The genius ads were terrible! When I first saw these ads I was shocked. Apple normally produces great ads--I love the Siri ads and the iPad ads. The genius ads were childish, poorly written, and should never have been approved. I hope Apple doesn't make this mistake again.

How on god's green earth were those commercials insulting? Using a Mac doesn't make you a better computer user, just someone who's willing to fork out more money for a computer they like.

i'm willing to bet that you never used tiger/panther when win2000/me were out.

apple at the time had all the functions you wanted that you otherwise had to "hack" for, and they were all wonderfully UI supported and rock solid. if you had used then, you would've known.

but you have the rev-1 retina MBP... so i just laugh at you :) :apple:

because, with the advent of Lion onward, Linux became the best average-users' OS, and Windows 7 became the best professional users' OS. the "just like a mac" commercial IRL would've been a hardware-superior machine versus a clunky Lion machine — but you wouldn't know about that, from your buying choices.

You are still not getting it. You can understand the basics on how to operate iMovie but you might not have the confidence or knowledge on how to execute a good cut using the tool. The Apple stores offer classes and one on one training for movie making.

The ads focused on those training options using characters representing a possible customer of those services. They were not focused on a product or meant to represent you.

Which one of them represented a possible One to One customer? Was it the one with the guy on the plane? I've only seen these Apple adverts on Youtube. Never seen them on TV. UK TV mostly airs adverts about claiming back mis-sold PPI if you've taken out a loan/mortgage/credit card in the past 10 years, asking for your gold to turn it into cash, bingo, car insurance, price comparison websites, loan companies, debt advice helplines, ambulance chasers (with names like InjuryLawyers4U), home insurance, landlord insurance, payday loans that could cost you your kneecaps (the APR is over 1000%) and loads of other rubbish. :D Riveting. Were the Apple ads shown around the world or only in the US?
