I have the 9C89 screen and my uMB 2.4 was made in the 10th week of this year. I have 2 questions: can I take my mac to the apple store even if i bought it at best buy, or do I have to go thru them 1st? Also if I try one of the calibrations can I undo it or go back to what I have now (never changed any screen settings since I got the mac) so if I am able to take it to the apple store I can show them the washed out colors/blacks and bad angles? It seems to show most when I use the earth/space desktop that seems to be the norm here on the boards. thanks

Seeing how you bought it at Best Buy, if you're looking for an exchange, you'd have to deal with BB. If you're looking for a warranty claim, the Apple store will be your first stop.

If you load up a calibrated .icc files, yes you can load back the factory setting by selecting the "color lcd" profile in your color profile list.

So, I got my macbook back! The screen looks amazing compared to my old screen, the model is 9C8A and they replaced my whole top case! I'm really happy with apple =D

Un-freakin' believable.

Perhaps I will swing down to the local Apple store afterall. I'm torn though. I've got the 9c89 dialed in pretty nicely but I'd love better vertical viewing angles.

Youssefm, can you tilt the screen more now without getting washout/negative coloration than before?

Congrats OP. :)

Oh boy, I should have done the same instead of selling both my Alu MBs at such a huge lost as I don't expect them to do anything for me. :( Those 2 buyers would probably be laughing at me for my stupidity if they managed to get Apple to change their screens. :( Now I really regret my rashness at selling my MBs. This is why I LOVE Apple. :(

Wait a minute... Is it a 9C8A or 9CA8? Because the 9C8A is a Samsung & it is one of the older (original) screens. However, the 9CA8 is the newer one, an AUO.

Oh snap! Good catch.

I was so caught up in indecisiveness I didn't even notice that!

It's actually the old samsung panel, 9C8A, but the viewing angles are perfect, and i get no washout or light bleed when I tilt my screen, and I can actually see everything perfectly from any angle, and my colors are really rich.. I tried comparing them to the new 13" mbp's and i saw very little difference. I can post pictures if you want.. but idk if they'll do any good, this is all also compared to my old screen, which if I tilted it just a tiny bit the colors and lighting got all retarded lol

I wonder why they didn't just put the newest on there.

Maybe if Apple do so, there's gonna be a whole bunch of people "hogging" the Apple stores to demand the Geniuses to change their Alu MB's crappy displays to the newer ones. I don't think Apple wants such a thing to happen...

I'm sure they have a ton of those old displays just waiting for all the repairs.

My screen is bad (has a very large white spot) but i'm certain i'll just get the same (of worse) so i'm in no hurry.

If you want the new stuff you'll have to pay for the rest of the machine :D

If I call apple care and ask them to replace the screen do you think they will be able to if they talk to my local apple store?

I don't see why I would... I got all the screws except two out, but it seems like I'm using a #0 (my dad bought it, so I'm not exactly sure what he bought)

The size difference is negligible. I did it with one screwdriver, the smaller of the two.

Im going to the apple store again saturday to see if I can install the ram in-store using their tools, and if they can replace my stripped screw.
