So here in the Philippines, there are the so-called "authorized" stores such as the PowerMac Center.
Special Note: They ship the phone to Singapore's Apple Store after doing a local diagnostic test for repairs etc.

Me and my wife inquired to have our iPhone (old SE2020) battery replaced.
They told us that they need to do a factory reset alongside the battery replacement.

Is that a norm in the U.S. when doing a battery change, say... directly in the Apple store there?
Do you people get your iPhones reset just to have your batteries changed?
I'm curious because why the need to reset?!

I'm on 15 Pro now and damn, I don't want to do a factory reset just to have them replace my battery.

Edit:
I forgot to add... They have 3-4 weeks turn-around time before they return your phone to you. (store not offering spare phone or whatever)

No, I've had batteries replaced 3 or 4 times on various phones and the phones were always returned to me exactly as I handed them over. Never had to erase anything. I've always gone to the Apple Store for battery service.

Damn, I'm hating it here in my country. I forgot to add: 3-4weeks turn around time! Meaning, no phone for us during that time.

Damn, that’s quite unfortunate. Thankfully here it’s mostly a several hour wait and then it’s done. That really sucks to wait weeks. I’d possibly try the Apple DIY kit as an option if it’s available in your country…

I've always done an encrypted backup using iTunes/Finder then completely wipe the phone and turn find my off before having Apple replace my batteries. If they damage the device you will receive a refurbished unit and either way all you have to do is restore/setup your device using your backup and you're off and running..

Curious why you erase it? I mean I guess I can see why for privacy in case the phone is unlocked, just never really been concerned with it myself. They turn off find my when you hand it over because they don’t want you somehow trying to track something in the back.

If I erase the device, they can power it on without needing a passcode to test the phone. If they damage the phone during the repair and have to give me a refurbished device, then I don't have to worry about any data or personal info left on the old phone. It might be overkill but restoring the phone using an encrypted backup doesn't really take a lot of time.. Luckily all battery replacements have gone well and took around an hour. I also go over the phone with the specialist and make them aware of the condition of the phone before the repair that way if it's returned with scratches or other issues they can't say it was like that before the repair..

This one, sign-out of everything and then they'll do a factory reset.
Maybe, I'm ok with the factory reset according to your points (privacy things) but the turn-around time is sheet.
3-4weeks just for a battery replacement and I don't even have a spare phone! 🙄😥

It is indeed weird that the phone needs to be factory reset [erase all content and settings] when the only repair aspect is replacing the battery from these so-called Apple Authorized Service Providers in the Philippines...

Too bad there is no official Apple Store and no Genius Bar unlike in some other countries...

I think within an hour or two or even less than that, the battery replacement can already be done while you wait or while you do some other things [shop, eat, go elsewhere to do something else]...

Since the iPhone will be turned off to replace the battery, it will ask for the security code and you only need to provide it once the battery has been replaced and the phone is turned on... No need to provide it in advance [before the repair is performed] since they can just put the repaired phone aside and wait for your return or you can just enter the code yourself after the battery is replaced but before the unit is closed...

There are non-official repair shops that can do it while you wait although quality-wise in both the repair and the replacement battery is not on par with official Apple repair and battery... Greenhills is one of the famous go-to places in the Philippines for purchasing smartphone and having smartphone and other gadgets repaired...

The non-official repair shops can do it within a short amount of time, for a low fee although you will have to keep up and put up with the after effects... The condition of the device may get worse than before it was repaired, worst case, a hardware inside the phone gets damaged leading to an unusable phone...

But yes, an iCloud backup or iTunes backup would be helpful should the phone be no longer usable after the so-called repair...

In some cases, it's best to just purchase a new unit [smartphone] entirely instead of having just the battery replaced...
