After using the iPhone 12 mini for just 10 months, the battery health has dropped 7%, from 100% to 93% now. Sometimes I pay attention and only charge to 80%, and never discharge it to shut down, but sometimes I will forget and keep it charged to 100%.

Is it normal or abnormal?

By the way, worth upgrading to iPhone 14 from 12 mini now?

This is normal, especially for the iPhone 12 Mini. The batteries used in the 12 and 12 Mini seem to be of lower quality than ones used in previous years.

Not a huge deal but a good trick I learned on the forums here was to simply use the shortcuts app to remind you so you don't forget. For me I use the following 2 automations for my 13 Pro Max:
  • When it falls below 40%: Speak text "Please charge"
  • When it rises above 80%: Speak text "Please unplug"

Perfectly normal. Apple claims it is not uncommon to have a 1% loss per month.

Never had an iPhone battery degrade as fast as the 12 Mini...

Upgraded to the 13 Mini because the battery often got low at the end. (With 82% battery health)

Hopefully will have more luck with this one. But can't tell yet, since it has only been 2 months. But still at 100%.

Set a timer with the shortcut/automation app (by apple indeed) will work as well.
Ever nicer is to switch a homekit bridged fibaro wall plug with home assistant to kill power when it reaches 80%

My SE2 degraded quicker than the 12 mini even with both getting very little use (5-10 minutes average onscreen time).

Alas, small size = small battery and unfortunately, the A13 doesn’t seem to be as efficient as the A15.

That said, my new SE3 seem to be doing noticeably better than the SE2 back when that was new so I’m hopeful it will fare longer.

I still have my launch day 12 Pro Max. Almost 2 years later and the battery is at 82%. I used to have to charge it 2-3 times a day. I haven’t got the chance to test the battery on the 14 Pro Max at work yet, but I keep a battery pack with me to charge up. I already had made the decision to upgrade to the 14 Pro Max last year after the 13 launched.

Yeah, it’s just Apple’s own Shortcuts app. I think it comes stock on your phone the same way the Maps and Photos app is on your phone when you first set it up, if not it's in the App Store. The shortcut automations are easy to set up and help me keep my phone's battery in its most optimal range @ 40 - 80%. Eventually I'll even use the Shortcuts app to simply turn off a wifi smart plug once my phone is 80% charged so I don't have to think about it at all 🙂
