how do you manage the enormous heat?

How do you keep the machine cool?

my GPU OC'ed to 775/975 @ 0.955 went up to 88C

and I don't think that it is healthy for the machine on the long run with that much heat.
for example: GPU/CPU or logicboard fail after 2 years

We need to figure out how much of a boost we will get from OC'ing the memory. Games seem to be pretty inconsistent on how much of a boost it translates into real FPS gain.

For those of you wondering how BF3 runs on a stock 15" 2011 MBP (2.2 GHz, 1GB 6750, 4GB RAM, 11.9 drivers), with everything on medium, no AA and 2x AF I get a smooth 30fps. Considering this is what the consoles are locked to, it's extremely playable and looks good too!
I'm holding out for the final 11.10 drivers and hope they bring a nice performance boost.

yeah u get 60 fps already on ULTRA when not in open land like caspian border. but with medium and no AA u will have 60 fps and more where ever u are :D

Runs great on mine too but I'm not seeing this performance... OP How you measuring FPS?

I get 60 when I look at the floor, but how about the Forrest flag on caspian?

Anyone know how to download and install the 11.10 drivers on top of the bootcamp drivers?

download from here: choose Windows 7/Vista x64 Mobility
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/ar.../t-154418.html
start it and instead of install click uninstall/remove AMD Drivers

reboot

use Driversweeper to sweep the rest of whatever AMD uninstaller missed

reboot

install the driver from that link that you downloaded :D

Im happy u like the game.

Now I have some news. Amd just released the final version of 11.10 drivers for BF3. This will fix some minor gfx bugs and give u 2-5 FPS more.

Another thing i just got yesterday the new MBP 15" late 2011 model with 2.4GHz and the new AMD 6770M. i will report how much of improvement u get with this machine and how much i can safely OC the GPU ;)

I will also get soon 16GB of RAM (as soon as price drops under 400$, atm at 420$).

Hey I tried your method. I uninstalled and it worked correctly, removed the driver. But when I "installed" the graphics driver doesn't seem to install??

Did step by step including rebooting and cleaning everything from AMD?

So is it giving an error? U tried reinstalling? Under progrqms nothing can be found from AMD?

It can take more than 100C so no worries! For some with thermal paste prpblems already without overclock its at 88 C! With undervolting of the GPU normally it should be cooler. So u overclocked it but still are on relatively low temperatures! Everything fine! Try throttlestop to avoid turbo boost which generates some heat too!

Teknikal90 it might be because you got 6770m same chip but different rom, but I don't know.
and please check your Driver version using GPU-Z, f it installed correct it should say:
"atiumdag 8.902.0.0 (Catalyst 11.10)/Win 7 64

as for Meetster
I use Throttlestop now :) the fps is smoother ;) and the GPU reaches 88c as for the CPU it hits 100c sometimes, but I'm happy with the result, as it seems a bit cooler :D

......but we will find out in a year or two if the machine really could handle those heats  interesting :apple:

Teknikal90: it's because of the AMD Radeon 6770M u got there... I have now the same problem with the late 2011 MBP... :(((( we need to wait for new Cataclyst Drivers

Meetster, I'm just weeks away from buying the 17" 2.5Ghz i7 with the 6770, and the first thing I'm planning to run on bootcamp is BF3, so your experiences with the new GPU on Win 7 64 and BF3 are of UTMOST interest for me.

I can't understnad why would you not be able to have the Late 2011 use the latest ATI drivers? Isn't the 6750m and the 6770m essentially the same chip? Just that the 6770m is a bit overclocked?

I'ts been years since I've had to deal with ATI drivers, but at least Nvidia, when they release a driver that is for say, the 500m series, it means the driver is good for ALL gpu's that are on that series: it will run well on 520m, 550m, 560mGT, 570, etc. Is AMD/ATI different to Nvidia in that respect? Do they really release one different driver for each gpu model in the series?????? If so, AMD/ATI has still A LOT to learn from Nvidia in terms of driver actualization.

Please keep us posted, I might need to hold off my purchase of the the Late 2011 MBP until there's a solid/stable driver for its 6770m gpu... specially one that would allow to run BF3.

You didn't follow the steps, or you didn't use drive sweeper.

I have BF3 running from a 320 series intel ssd, 8gb 1866 hyper x, GPU oced to 775/975 @.955 and 11.10 drivers, running at 1920x1200 at medium settings, It won't drop below 28 but won't obtain over 35.

I will post soon a thread about overclocking the late 2011 models. I will keep you updated here aswell. For now I can say I get little more FPS than with the early 2011 model, but am not satisfied yet neither with the performance nor with the stability of the OC.

Got it to work. This website i think mods the ATI drivers to allows it to work on 'restricted' laptops...

anyways..
just a gauge... those with late 2011 MBPs, what are your settings and what fps are you getting??
im a 2.4ghz quad...4gb ram

OCed to 750/900 at 0.955v

High textures, low shadows, medium everything else. SSAO on, AA off, post AA off, 8x AF.
1280x800 i get 35-60, hovering on 40 most of the time.

I did buy the hi-res option and am starting to regret it. If i had stuck with the original 1440x900 screen perhaps i would've been able to run this game natively (sharper image)....darn it

Yeah 1680x1050 would look "sharper" but having a higher res will drop your FPS, significantly depending on your settings.

How long ago did you purchase this laptop?

Anyone know if an early 2011 2GHz (6490m) will run this game?

With 256mb vram, it would be very hard for it to keep up.

Check out notebook check here where there is a comparison of the 6490 with some games.

It appears it would run, but the 6490m they have has 512mb vram. Explains why the charts look pretty good against the 6750m 1gb.
