Some of those URLs are affiliate links. It would be good for MR to identify in the article which links they receive compensation when readers purchase items through those links. Failure to identify those links tends to blur the line between a news item and an advertisement. :(

Who cares!?

Its obviously ALL an advertisement of Black Friday deals. Pretty much every tech site is doing the same thing, and hoping to be compensated in some way. Good for them.

This site is business, not a non-profit-feed-the-needy-children charitable organization.

I sure hope Macrumors can make some money from these advertisements! They've provided us amazing, FREE news/rumors/content for YEARS! I love supporting sites I enjoy by clicking and buying stuff I need through their links.

Sorry if it comes across rude, but too many get all offended when a site that has provided A FREE SERVICE for years tries to make some extra advertising cash once in a while. Websites aren't free.

KEEP IT UP MACRUMORS! Any good iPad Pro deals?

Still am wondering if Apple will knock 100 bucks off an iPad Air 2 tomorrow. I need a 64gb wifi/cellular model and I've been waiting a month to find out - because - I have a triple rewards card if I use it at the Apple Store or on line with Apple, but Best buy has a great price if Apple isn't going to do anything. Anybody have a clue?
Yup, Nice Bag.

Yup, Nice Bag.

Target has the best deals on iPad Air 2 if you use their $150 gift cards included in the deal.

I did see that, but we don't shop at Target. I don't have one close by. In looking at Targets add a few days ago, all of the Black Friday iPads were wifi only, and I need cellular as well. They may have changed though...

On their site it does look like they have some Wifi+Cell, but not all.

You can buy online, and then buy a lot of Cheerios & toilet paper later with the $150 GC.

FYI

Avoid Sewell direct/Mos like the plague- their products are cheaply made and customer service is the worst. I bought 4 reach cables, all have failed.

Customer service rep was worse then the cable reps on South Park, you know the ones that get off on making it difficult to get anything rectified.

I care. I want to support MacRumors, but I'd like to see a disclaimer that there are affiliate links here.

The way iMore does it is great: "This post may contain affiliate links. See our disclosure policy for more details."

Oh lord. Disclaimers. Lovely.

Why do you care? Does it matter if MacRumors makes a commission or not off the links they provide?

IT'S A BUSINESS. Assume any and all links provided are provided with the intent of making some kind of advertising commission.

Do you need disclaimers and disclosure policies from Nickelodeon in front of every Lego ad played during your favorite Spongebob Square Pants episode?

Sorry. Seems silly that people get so offended when a site posts some links. It's why Lawyers are so successful - writing disclaimers and disclosure policies...

You are kind of being a dick right now.

Not really, I'm not using insults or profanity.

I really want to know why people care. Solid reasons. I clicked on the forum link, and the SECOND post was someone complaining about the links.

What's the problem with a FREE site providing links to other sites and products for which they might receive a few fractions of a cent for clicks? Seems like thats what every site in the world does. Its expected.

Would you rather have no ads and no links, and a $29 a year MacRumors subscription?

[Disclaimer: These posts are my opinion. No profits are being collected from these posts. I have no business or personal relationship with MacRumors, it's owners, affiliates, lawyers, priests, or pets. No platypuses were harmed in the making of these posts.]

Insults or profanity are not a prerequisite for being a jerk.

So there can't be solid reasons because the SECOND post was someone noted the conflict of interest? Really?

The SOLID reason was already noted. MR is a news site first and foremost. Adding URLs with affiliate links means the site has a financial interest in the "news" story. The way to avoid the conflict is to clearly LABEL those affiliate links in the article.

What's the problem with a FREE site providing links to other sites and products for which they might receive a few fractions of a cent for clicks?

More than a faction of a cent. And the amount is irrelevant; the important thing is to CALL OUT places where the site can be making money on its "news" story.

Seems like thats what every site in the world does. Its expected.

Seems like someone is complacent on the practice and wants to impose their complacency on everyone else.

Would you rather have no ads and no links, and a $29 a year MacRumors subscription?

No that's a false dilemma, a fallacious way of arguing. The solution was noted in my first message: It would be good for MR to identify in the article which links they receive compensation when readers purchase items through those links. Why are you asking a question that has already been answered?

[Disclaimer: These posts are my opinion. No profits are being collected from these posts. I have no business or personal relationship with MacRumors, it's owners, affiliates, lawyers, priests, or pets. No platypuses were harmed in the making of these posts.]

Exactly. This is another example of acting like a jerk.

Your questions were answered before you ever asked them. Were you really asking a question?

You should totally lawyer-up and send this and every other site that offends you by not disclaiming clear advertising policies cease and desist letters! Stand up for your rights! Start an organization! It's all about your rights as a consumer of tech news! Don't let them trample you with sneaky links and undisclosed potential profit making! Who do they think they are!?

Ok, I'm out of this thread. I thought it'd be about sweet Black Friday deals, but it's a buzzkill.

Why do you resort to such an absurd argument?

First, you asked "Who cares!?". Several people -- including me -- noted they did care. Then you argued with a false dilemma -- a fallacious argument. Now you make a ridiculous exaggeration.

What's wrong with simply making a request for MR to call out when they put affiliate links in a news article?

Who do they think they are!?

I think they are journalists with integrity. That's why I read the site, and that's why I have it whitelisted from ad-blocking software.

Why did you fail to answer any of our questions?

Ok, I'm out of this thread. I thought it'd be about sweet Black Friday deals, but it's a buzzkill.

Why is it buzzkill to point out a conflict of interest on a news site?

Do you ever argue in a rational fashion? Are you ever accountable for your fallacious arguments?

Dismissed.

It's Thanksgiving and you have nothing better to do than chastise a person for stating a simple opinion. You are all fired up about this for no good reason. So, yeah. You are kind of being a dick about it.

Happy Thanksgiving.
If you need MacRumors legal dept to footnote their storries/rumors and product links, then you are in the wrong little corner of the internet. This is a site to enjoy, not complain about. Most of us can tell the difference between a rumor or a sales plug. Both are welcome here by me.

No.

Here's A Clue: A product released just two weeks ago where orders are already backlogged will NOT be included in BF sales. No iPad Pros. No iPad Pro Keyboards. And definitely no iPad Pro Pencils.
