Cannot remove/change metadata tags

What is out there to remove and append metadata.

I am trying to use squeegify, but it is corrupting the files.

And new apps that are more sophisticated?

I have tried every direction I can, re-encode, stripping mettadata, running it through a miriad of diferent apps that tag, cant seem to get anyhting to work.

Specifically it is a sorting tag that is causing seasons to be split into diferent headings.

Any good ideas?
These are from a DVD, so i could restrip and encode, but would love to avoid that if possible.

Thanks

I have not used MetaX for quite a while...But MetaZ, I still use and is my preferred tagging software, as I dont really see how to make iDentity work correctly for me.

This is a older set of files from way back that I am working with...
They are all tagged, its simply that I cannot seem to change these tags, as they were mistakenly made dissimilar.

Now back when all this tagging stuff started, MetaX was fairly unstable IMO, and there were a lot of odd things going on when writing at times.

I wonder if perhaps the metadata was written, but somehow corrupted?
Nothing acts like the file is bad/damaged at all, until I try and and strip all the metadata off, and making a change of the specific tags I am trying to change are ineffective...

I reencoded a file with HB, and the metadata automatically travels across to the new file, so even that has not solved the issue..
Is there a setting to prohibit carrying over the metadata to a new file encoded in handbrake?

I use the free Subler to do my meta tagging. It has some other nice features too, like OCR-ng from DVD and BD subtitles into Text subs.
