Can't delete .avi file!!

This is really annoying me. I attempted to download a large .avi file (roughly 1.5GB) but for some reason it stopped at 1 and a bit GB. I'm now trying to delete it as I cannot open it (for obvious reasons, it being an incomplete file) but can't. Says that the item is in use. Before you ask, I have tried all the normal suggestions (close all applications, restarting computer and holding option key while clicking empty trash), none have worked and I still can't delete it. Any other suggestions?

what prog did you use to d/l the file? basically what to do is go into the prog, delete the file from the library then empty trash.

This terminal command stills working today in 10.8.4, thanks;

Delete via the Terminal Failing the above, use the following command in Terminal (located in ~/Applications/Utilities)

sudo rm -R

followed by the location of the file you are trying to delete, e.g.:

sudo rm -R "/Applications/Photoshop CS2/legal/Tieng Viet.html"
