Hello,

I want to upgrade the 80GB drives in my original G4 Xserve and was hoping that it is just as simple as pulling out the drive carriage, removing and reinstalling the upgraded 250GB Maxtor drives and then running Disk Util.

Has anyone done this? Any links that confirm or deny that this is possible?

There is no way that I'm going to shell out another $499 per drive upgrade buying directly from Apple when I already have the drive carriers...

Thanks in advance!

What I have done, is replaced the hard drive in the carrier with a new one, but it was the same type hard drive.
I have not replaced the drive by a different one, but I assume it will work. No reason why it shouldn't.
It is one of those "own risk" issues. It will probably work, but don't call Apple Care if it doesn't ;)
