complete n00b to fink has questions

i just installed fink and it seemed to work. then used it to install
netpbm and imagemagick which both seemed to work. both are
command line programs. when i go to a terminal and type in a
command, however, i get:

-bash: convert: command not found

convert is an imagemagick command i've used many times on
other os's so i know how to use it. i'm thinking this is some kind
of pathing or config file issue but i really know nothing about how
this works, where to find such things, or what to type in when i
find it on osx. any tips, or better yet, specific instructions, are
much apreciated. please phrase any responses as if you're talking
to a three year old.

Fink Commander installs into " ~/sw " by default
not into " ~/usr " where bash expects to find it !
