I understand that with new macs you dont need a crossover cable., but iam trying to connect it to a Dell Laptop. Does it matter if the dell wont "crossover" the cables of a normal ethernet cable?
Does that makes sense?

I think it will probably work because the way a cross over cable is made it's just a normal ethernet cable crossed at ONE end. So it makes sense that if the mac crosses it that it will work good. I think I remember actually doing this once. Should be no problem

Yes, modern macs ethernet ports are auto sensing, and will thus work with whatever cable you use to connect to another computer.
