I hope Craig Ferguson takes over for Dave. He's the only really good host left on late night .
I would love to see that but could Ferguson do his show at 11:35. Seems like it would be the same issue Conan had making the move.

Statement is out:
David Letterman, during a taping of tonight’s Late Show, said that he informed Leslie Moonves, President and CEO of CBS Corporation, that he will step down as the host of the show in 2015, which is when his current contract expires.
“The man who owns this network, Leslie Moonves, he and I have had a relationship of years and years and years, and we have had this conversation in the past, and we agreed that we would work together on this circumstance and the timing of this circumstance. And I phoned just before the program, and I said “Leslie, it’s been great, you’ve been great, and the network has been great, but I’m retiring,” said Letterman.
“I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all the people who have worked there, all the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much. What this means now, is that Paul and I can be married.”
“We don’t have the timetable for this precisely down — I think it will be at least a year or so, but sometime in the not too distant future, 2015 for the love of God, in fact, Paul and I will be wrapping up,” he added, to a standing ovation from the audience in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

I don't see any problem. It's basically the understudy taking over for the master. Same network. Different time slot.

As far as ratings is concerned I don't think CBS is too worried considering they have almost all of the top 25 shows on television.

Besides Leslie Moonves was once the producer for Dave before he took over CBS.

It's about time. The comedic pace of his show has been so slow that I haven't watched for years. I couldn't stand watching him laugh at his own jokes and turning to Paul to reinforce the self-applause. Don't get me wrong--I used to be a huge Letterman fan back in the days when Chris Elliot made guest appearances. If only the show had stayed that fresh.

I agree, Letterman should have retired long ago.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Names floating around as replacements, all of who have contracts that expire within a year. Jon Stewart, Conan, Steven Colbert.

I hope CBS goes with something different. The late night format is so tired.

As much as I'd love to see Craig Ferguson take over, I don't think CBS sees him as a big enough name for the 11:30 slot. Hope I'm wrong. Only other talk show host that holds my interest is Jon Stewart and I don't see him leaving the relaxed reins he has at Comedy Central.

Don't think we would see Jon Stewart take over. The show would become way too political .

Besides Comedy Central is owned by NBC which is owned by Comcast.

Viacom owns Comedy Central.

I wonder if Jay Leno would see the humor in taking over for Letterman under a 1 year contract, while they do a replacement search.
