I'm close to buying a 34UM95, which most likely has the same panel as this. Quality Control is putting me off at the moment though.

Hopefully this isn't too much more.

Should be out Dec, hoping this week? Need to upgrade my 2913. been waiting for this for ages and not gone LG due to their dodgy QC department!

Wondering if my 2012 Mac Mini will be able to run it?

FWIW the 34UC97 (curved version) has vastly better QC than the original flat 34 did. I went through 3 of those all with various strange issues before finally switching to the curved, and it is perfect. The UM95 came out in April and I think since then LG has hammered out the big issues it had with those panels.

I would still prefer to get them Dell because of their service and aftercare.

Hmmm...my experience was vastly different. I tried two 34UC97 monitors and the backlight bleeding on both was identical and simply awful. It wasn't subtle IPS glow, thats for sure. Even my wife (who's almost completely insensitive to such things) agreed that the degree of backlight bleed was completely unacceptable for a $1300 monitor. I seriously questioned how something that bad could've possibly passed QC. It was BAD.

So, I hope Dell found a way around this, but if they are using the LG's panel, I have my doubts. I'm really looking forward to the 34" 21:9 Samsung VA panel.

The LG has vastly better connectivity due to Thunderbolt, which makes any other display less appealing.

True, but Thunderbolt connectivity doesn't matter much if the display itself sucks. As a matter of fact, one of the two displays that I briefly had wouldn't even properly multiplex a Thunderbolt input to its USB outputs.

It seems to be a crap-shoot as to whether any given LG will be up to snuff. I know I'm personally not going to roll the dice with LG again.

ordered mine 3 days ago. ETA is 2 weeks  I'd probably return the U3415W after having my fun and order 2 4K 27" when it's offered since I'm such a retina freak

Screen estate is amazing (coming from 24"). Not surprising but the yellow IPS glow at the corners are pretty bad specially when viewing blacks and dark colours. Don't know if i'll be returning or not. Most probably I will cause I spent a lot for this monitor (aprrox $999). I deserve better than this. :(

...and that's why I'm really interested in the Samsung S34E790C. It's got a VA panel so backlight bleed/IPS glow shouldn't be an issue.

Can you see the blacklight bleed with normal dark content or only with an entirely black screen?

I ask because the LG had the same problem, but some people saw it even with normal, but dark content (unacceptable), whereas others only saw it with a completely black screen (don't care because that's not a real life use case).

honestly, it's unacceptable to me. The glow is too much that the blacks turn dark blue because of the backlight bleed and pictures shown at the corners will have added yellow glow to it. Other than that, all is good. I ran mine at 2560x1080 (HiDPI). it's sharp but not as sharp as the retina displays. Movies during dark scenes, your eyes will suffer. I would gladly bought the 2 pairs of up2715Qs but my country doesn't offer them. We only got the 5k and U3415w.

Understood. Well, mine arrives Tuesday so I'll see for myself.

I had no idea there were 3440x1440 VA panels. I love VA panels, and went way out of my way to get a small MVA panel TV. It has great blacks compared to most LCDs.

If the Dell U3415W isn't great, perhaps I will return it and get the Sammy. However, I got the Dell for $923 and the Sammy is $1300+ at the moment. That's quite a bit more money.

Guru3D says the U.S. MSRP will be $1199, so once it's actually available from U.S. sellers, it might not wind up costing you that much more than the Dell.

Samsung will never bring that model to my country. It's too high tech, most people here are happy with their 24". I bet they don't know that curved monitor exists here.

Well I got my Dell last night and it's quite awful. The worst is the upper right corner with a large 2" yellow glow, but all four corners have it and I even see backlight bleeding spill out onto the screen along the entire top edge.

Any content that's well-lit is phenomenal. No question--I love the 34" 21:9 curved format.

Unfortunately it sounds like the Samsung SVA panel can have backlight bleed that's just as bad as the LG IPS panel (Dell uses the LG IPS panel). Saw this in another thread (note the pictures in post 245):
