Hello,

I am trying to shift the Macintosh HD and other icons from the right side to the left. I am switching from windows and I am accustomed to the left side. Is this possible?

I searched through the finder perferences and can't find anything.

Much thanks

You can try to arrange them that way, but if I recall, they'll move back to the right on start-up or if you use clean up form the View menu.

I'm only really here at night.
You can position the dock on the left side of your desktop in the Dock prefs. Then drag & drop an alias of your HD's (and folders) into the dock (on the same end as the trash can) and switch the Finder prefs to NOT show the HD's on the desktop.

The HD icons will disappear from the desktop but you can access them from the alias in the dock with a right mouse click :)
