The external hard drive that I have plugged into my Airport Extreme with my itunes movie library won't start up. I believe the problem is with the power supply. It's a 3TB desktop type hard drive, not a portable kind that is only powered by the USB port.
So my question is, what's the easiest way to find out if the drive itself is OK? If I take the drive out and plug it into another external housing I have that is powered only by USB, will it do any harm? Or will I need to buy an external hard drive enclosure that has its own power? Is there an easy way to test the power supply to see if it's the defective part? Thanks
