Apple site is listing it as a 4S and iPad 3rd Gen feature only now![]()
I have an iPhone 4s and it worked over 3G last night, and better then I expected it to honestly. I do not see why the iPhone 4 at least could not handle it though.
that sucks. doesnt really make sense on apples part.![]()
makes perfect sense on Apples part... get users to upgrade to newer devices = more money for apple.
Ant
but they arent going to say "you can only use this on these devices because we want more moeny" they are going to give some bs "hardware", "doesnt have hspa+ or lte" or "[insert non nonsensical reasoning]"
Makes sense because the 4s have a faster modem than the 4 and 3GS... And the newer iPad has LTE so there should be no problem using FaceTime wirelessly .
iPhone 4s 14.4 mbps down 5,8 up
iPhone 4 and 3GS are lower than that and FaceTime won't be as fluid.
I really don't understand why Apple restricts these features to only the newest devices.
Hello
I tried facetime over 3g on my phone and those are the results:
Facetime start (11.06 pm): 1672 MB of data left
Facetime stop: (11.16 pm): 1652 MB of data left
Based on that I see that it uses approximately 2 MB per minute.
It's because of the 4G speed compared to 3G. 3G is nice, but once you try 4G LTE, you never go back. LTE is like using your internet at home, it's THAT good. Loads YouTube and doesn't buffer. And that's the kind of connection that FaceTime would benefit most from.

Which is kind of funny, and ironic, given that Steve Jobs announced FaceTime itself, not to mention his desire to get it working over cellular soon, during the... iPhone 4 launch.
