Is that working for anyone yet? Is there a setting that needs to be turned on. Or is it disabled till later betas. Doesn't seem to be working for me.

I have an iPhone 4s and it worked over 3G last night, and better then I expected it to honestly. I do not see why the iPhone 4 at least could not handle it though.

makes perfect sense on Apples part... get users to upgrade to newer devices = more money for apple.

Ant

but they arent going to say "you can only use this on these devices because we want more moeny" they are going to give some bs "hardware", "doesnt have hspa+ or lte" or "[insert non nonsensical reasoning]"

Makes sense because the 4s have a faster modem than the 4 and 3GS... And the newer iPad has LTE so there should be no problem using FaceTime wirelessly .
iPhone 4s 14.4 mbps down 5,8 up
iPhone 4 and 3GS are lower than that and FaceTime won't be as fluid.

Which is kind of funny, and ironic, given that Steve Jobs announced FaceTime itself, not to mention his desire to get it working over cellular soon, during the... iPhone 4 launch.

Ok thanks makes sense cause i still have a 4.

should i upgrade now:rolleyes:

lol only if you have ATT... there are several slow gsm/cdma carriers on the 4s who dont even offer any where close to hspa+ speeds.

so it doesnt make sense because there are people who have 4s sprint ios 6 and it lets them. sprints 3g is slower than all get out

Hello :)
I tried facetime over 3g on my phone and those are the results:
Facetime start (11.06 pm): 1672 MB of data left
Facetime stop: (11.16 pm): 1652 MB of data left
Based on that I see that it uses approximately 2 MB per minute.

It's because of the 4G speed compared to 3G. 3G is nice, but once you try 4G LTE, you never go back. LTE is like using your internet at home, it's THAT good. Loads YouTube and doesn't buffer. And that's the kind of connection that FaceTime would benefit most from.

Not too bad, unless a person spends over an hour talking to someone over 3G

I imagine they'll lift the restriction to put cellular FaceTime on the iPhone 4 before launch. FaceTime was THE feature they touted for the iPhone 4, and they mentioned during the keynote that they were working with the carriers to make it happen. Not giving those users 3g FaceTime calls would be stupid.

I have a 4S, so I don't really care either way, but I think any apple device (especially the 4) with a front facing camera should be able to do 3g FaceTime.

so it prolly uploads 1 mb per minute and downloads 1.

3g can handle that easily

If you look at the Austrailian Apple website, it says the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 will support FaceTime over cellular...

Apple, fix this for all iPhone 4 users.
