OK I've had a look at a couple of fax threads and I don't see why the fax isn't working.

Using 10.4.4 I can see that the FAX button has moved to the pdf button.

I'm using ADSL and the Mac is connected via ethernet.

I've set up the fax to send and receive in the prefs. using the internal modem.

I've set it so save to a download folder on the desktop. When I hit 'FAX' it looks like it is dialling but then it times out and nothing happens.

This may be basic but it isn't clear if you have this covered in your post.

The fax has to go through a phone line, not your ADSL. Make sure that you have a working phone line running directly to the modem port on your computer. Then try it again.

I see, no I haven't done that. There is a splitter sending one cable to the adsl modem and one to a phone.

I thought the internal modem would be connected via the ethernet modem. I'll try plugging the computer directly into the land line, but I'll need to get an extension cable.

With DSL, your Fax modem needs to be plugged into the phone line through one of the Filters. Without the filter, it won't work.
