I didn't notice the watch because I was distracted by what a poor photoshop job they did.

This is what happens when you work in design. Though not as bad as her photos for Sports Illustrated. Those were embarrassing. Her skin looked like rubber.

Yeah. It's really not that hard to add back in some texture so people don't look like they were Photoshopped to hell and back.

On the less superficial merits of the article, I always find stories like this interesting—I've long ago left behind glossy magazines in general and fitness-related magazines in particular (I did love reading Outside when I was younger.) I do wonder how much these sorts of adverts make inroads.

My brother is a lefty. He actually buys left handed watches (yes, it's a real thing). On traditional watches the crown is placed on the right side because it's easier to manipulate the crown when the watch is worn on the left because the wrist bends; giving easier access to the crown. Left handed watches have the crown on the left for the same reason

Despite being a lefty, I realized that I apparently have always worn my watches like a right-handed person would. Then again I've always preferred mousing with my right hand anyhow (and a good thing too, because keyboard shortcuts become incredibly difficult any other way.)

It's likely Photoshopped, at least color-enhanced, but some people actually look like that.
Right. She's young and beautiful and a cutie-patootie . I doubt they needed to Photoshop much unless maybe she was wearing a Pebble. She also looks great because it's been a long time since I've seen a woman in the media who looks to be 100% as "God made her".

Holy anorexia nervosa, Batman!
Oh I disagree. I think she looks like a healthy weight. Many young girls are thin but it's rarer and rarer as the years go on and many women start to gain weight unless they eat less/move more.

Really, I wear mine on the right... And I'm right handed.. Didn't know there was some "rule"... Must have missed the watch wearing course in grade school.

Actually, blame it on your Mom. I suppose you wear your belt with the buckle off-center, too, right?

Her over the top photoshopped face and body?

You can't be serious. There are 1000's of models that look exactly like her and require little to no post production touch ups. The magazine can easily find the "perfect" model virtually anywhere. It would be ridiculous for them to use a model that requires a lot of photoshopping.

Wait-- so what was in the article before FITNESS magazine asked MacRumors to revise it?! :apple:

There are a few quotes in the first two pages of comments. MR has basically removing specifics of what Apple's involvement/influence was during and after the shoot -during editing (Don't believe for a second you'd see a LED screen that clearly IRL).

if it is on a fitness or fashion magazine, it is 100% sure that photoshop is involved. The screen is photoshopped on, if not the entire watch.

Um, she's wearing it backwards. The crown is on the inside of her forearm (should be on the outside but flipped with button for lefties). Guess they wanted the crown in the shot.

You can configure it to be used like that. Mainly for lefties who want to wear on right hand:)

Anything that goes in a magazine is post processed. This especially applies to people. I work for a magazine, post processing is part of the workflow. Fitness magazines are well known to apply A LOT of photoshopping.

Look at a picture of a celebrity on a magazine cover, and Images of them taken at celebrity events, there is light and day difference.

Eh. I work in marketing and almost EVERYONE gets Photoshopped, no matter how beautiful they are. It's not always about making the model beautiful. Sometimes it's just about making them look right with a different background or other content. Often times it's about fixing a visual distraction- a single hair in front of the eyes, a hard shadow in a weird spot, something with too much detail relative to the rest of the photo, a piece of jewelry not sparkly enough or too sparkly and on and on. Sometimes it's making something that is captured accurately but looks unnatural actually look natural to someone without context of the whole photoshoot.

Lighting and makeup get you most of the way there, but in general, even for models, the teeth and the whites of the eyes are desaturated and brightened and skin tone and texture is evened. Often the body edges are refined and hair gets cloned in or out.

I've had to do these things hundreds of times. It's super common even for non-cover shoots. What makes me think this photo needed a little bit more work- the far arm looks bigger than the front arm (probably angle and lighting) . There are what look like brush strokes on parts of her body. The shadow on her torso looks a bit... weird. The window behind her has a warped bottom to her right (liquify tool?) and doesn't align on both sides of her body (though in other shots it clearly has a straight edge bottom). The ends of her hair in the back look unnatural (granted, hair is a b*tch to isolate, so I don't envy the person who had to do it) but there's no denying this photo has been photoshopped (and that it could have used a couple more hours of it).

But yeah, I'm nit picking and most normal people won't notice these things.

The screen could be, but why the hell would they do it if they could get it correctly while they shot it. Putting the face back on would be a bitch of a work so it is completely seamless. Don't think they'd want to spend that type of time for what exactly?

THe photo is undoubtedly photoshopped, every cover is, but adding the watch face is in is not the thing that is.

With the Apple Watch positioned as Apple's first wearable accessory, [....]

I keep reading this claim, but it's not really true, is it?

Apple's 2nd-gen "Put Some Music On" iPod shuffle campaign specifically made a feature of the wearable nature of the device.

Quote's from Apple's own site from 2006:

"The world’s smallest digital music player and just $79, the 1GB iPod shuffle lets you wear up to 240 songs on your sleeve. Or your lapel. Or your belt. Clip on iPod shuffle and wear it as a badge of musical devotion."

"Ready to wear
Clip it to your coin pocket. Clip it to your bag. No matter where you clip your skip-free iPod shuffle, you’ll have instant access to music."

"Sync to fit
The first step to wearing 240 songs on your iPod shuffle is downloading iTunes — free."

Just sayin'.

Why was this news article doctored to remove the text describing how Apple doctored the cover photo to make the Watch "look good?" :(

Gizmodo guy: "Hey! Kate! I'll give you $5,000 for that watch! Cash!"

LOL! I'm sure there was an Apple security guy right there off camera watching the use of the device during the whole shoot. Most probably, this is a late DVT unit with no OS and the icon screen was 'shopped in along with her waist.

or the fact she's wearing it on the wrong arm. Watches go on the Left.

Some work men, my dad for instance, wear their watches on the right arm.

He told me it's because he handles hammers and such with his right hand, so that's the safest place for the watch. The left side is typically holding the work-piece getting hit - ouch!

Even though I'm a producer with little danger (except maybe from Clarkson if I don't get the buffet right) I wear my watch on the right too in honour of my dad.

You have reading comprehension issues don't you? I never stated that NO AMOUNT of photoshop was used. That happens with any magazine. They do that to cover up blemishes and imperfections with the picture and the person. That other poster I responded to was saying she was near completely photoshopped. There's no reason to completely recreate someone via photoshop when the magazine can easily hire a model very close to what they are looking for. Models are a dime a dozen.

We have moderated a substantial number of posts in this thread due to two separate issues.

First, the crude and juvenile comments aimed at the cover model have been deleted as they were considered to be in poor taste for a news thread.

Second, the discussion regarding the health and well being of the cover model has been split off into a new thread, Slim and fit or anorexic? Discussion from the Fitness Magazine news thread, which is hosted in the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum.

if he's worried about hitting his wrist with a hammer, he wasn't using the hammer very well :p

There are many filters out there that has you find if areas are Photoshopped. It is mostly a comparison of pixel gradient randomness. If consistent in the pic, it is not shopped. If you notice areas of high contract with less gradient randomization, it is 'shopped.

Major magazines like this never get cheap on image. They hire good models, good photographers and they hire good retouching technicians working packages like Photoshop. My trained eye tells me the front belly and lower back and lower arms are altered the most. Also a lot of color balancing was done. I'm sure the watch face was also shopped with a late DVT unit on her wrist during the shoot.

I am not a fitness person at all so I guess Apple Watch is useless for me anyway. I kind of miss when Apple was a cool computer maker for creative people.

Why not 15 macs, 100 routers and a container full of Iphones... Your enumeration must mean something... Somehow. What?

I always find it funny like having a ton of Mac equipments somehow makes you a specialist on watches, tech, Apple, fashion, marketing, retail or whatever.

Doesn't matter if you like it; the important thing is that enough people that are NOT YOU like it. I'm one of them. So, they only need a few million more.

When you say you always find it funny, has it always been like that ? I also don't really see what your enumeration is based on, if apple sell 3 Million and 1 watches then they have reached some kind of milestone that 'matters' ? To whom ?
