I've had an iBook since spring of 2003 and it's had three hard drives fail. Do they normally fail this frequently? If not, do you think this is just a coincidence or could this be a symptom of other problems?

Normally they do not fail this often.

Sometimes the way you treat your laptop can cause them to fail earlier. If you have been gentle with your laptop, and do not carry it or move it with the HD running, then it might point to something else like your MB or the disk driver (hardware).

I had two HD failures in the space of a year. Problems when away after Apple replaced the MB.
