Hi,

Is there a plugin for Apple Mail which downloads messages from my gmail account?

At the moment a hack like httpmail doesn't seem to exist. However, you have got options like Gmail Status, which will provide you with a menubar update on the status of your account and a short cut to your inbox. gCount provides something similar. Not the full mail.app integration you're looking for but still pretty handy nonetheless :)

Except that hotmail is set up to permit downloading messages to outlook/outlook express/entourage. gmail is not, yet. Besides, the web interface with ads probably means no pop access, which would allow you to circumvent the ads. Same reason yahoo now charges for pop access.

Well, by that token, Yahoo *used* to charge for 100MB mailboxes. Also, I don't see any ads yet in my Gmail box.

No one but Google knows if they will offer POP or IMAP support, paid or free. Also, I don't see any ads yet in my Gmail box....Just wait until they officially launch Gmail.

Im really confrontational today :D

Sure--Yahoo might offer it again. And, sure, gmail might not put any ads in. You know, because they like giving stuff away for free.
