On my new MacBook, I can't download the following softwareupdates:
J2SE 5.0 Release 4
Keynote Update
Pages Update

It says I have error -1001, which is a timeout.

I'd say just try it again another time. Or does it always do this? Search for the software updater prefeferences and trash them. I'll find it for you if you are unable to.

I tried 4 times yesterday, and 2 times today. I don't care for the iWork updates, but that other one I would like to have. If yo could tell me where those updateprefs are?

Arghhh! I just installed Keynote again, and it won't download the softwareupdate! I known I could do it manually, but that Microsoft-ish. I'd like my updater to work. It went fine with the new QT, iTunes and iPod Updater and 10.4.7, but it's this iWork update bugging me!

BTW, I have same error as before, that timeout thingy...

Are you sure you can install these manually? The relevant preference file is probably com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist in your Preferences folder, if you still want to delete that too. :)
