Hey there i'm new to programming. I have been coding on the iphone for about a month and understand the basics. I started coding my first game and have run into a few problems. I'm trying to get rectangles or lines to stretch across the screen but have random squares cut out of them to allow a ball to drop through them. It would look something like this:

and so on. I want the rectangles or lines to move up the screen and have the ball falldown the screen through the openings. In summary i need help drawing random horizontal lines across the screen that move upwards.
